He is actually a pretty good offensive coordinator and I would take him in a heartbeat. He seems to have that magic touch with QB's...here is his history:
His promotion to offensive coordinator in 1989 was made before the team named Bud Carson as Marty Schottenheimer's successor as head coach.[6] Kosar passed for 3,533 yards and 18 TDs that season, while wide receiver Webster Slaughter had a franchise record 1,236 receiving yards. Trestman was dismissed after the Browns' third loss in the AFC Championship game in four years, primarily due to his strained relationship with Carson.[6]
In 1990, Trestman returned to Minnesota as quarterbacks coach for the Vikings. He spent two years there and then left coaching for three years, and worked in the municipal bond sale during that timespan.[5]
He returned to the NFL in 1995 as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator with San Francisco, where he served in that capacity through 1996. The first year he was in San Francisco, the team led the NFL with 457 points scored, 644 pass attempts and 4,779 passing yards.
Trestman joined the Detroit Lions as quarterbacks coach in 1997. That year Lions quarterback Scott Mitchell passed for 3,484 yards, fourth most in team history.
In 1998 he was with the Arizona Cardinals as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. That year quarterback Jake Plummer threw for 3,737 yards, and the Cardinals made the playoffs for the first time since 1982 and won their first post season game in 51 years.
He next went to the Oakland Raiders in 2001 as the quarterbacks coach. In 2002 he was promoted to offensive coordinator and the Raiders led the NFL in total offense with 389.8 yards per game and passing yards with 279.7 per game. Under Trestman's guidance, Raiders QB Rich Gannon won the 2002 NFL MVP award as the Raiders reached Super Bowl XXXVII, losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lets not forget he also made McCown look like Joe Montana...Jay Cutler also had a pretty good season until he shit the bed in 2014.

Dunnno - Trestman looked lost on the sidelines - didn't look engaged with the players, like he had respect from any of them. How old is the dude now anyway? 59 years old next season. I think Bill Walsh's coat-tails left a long time ago. He strikes me as uninspired at this point. In what way do you see him as uninspired? As a head coach? Because Norv Turner, Wade Phillips, Todd Haley, Jim Schwartz, Scott Linehan etc...they were all uninspiring head coaches but they are very good coordinators.

Trestman sounds like he is going to Tampa or Jacksonville. However, Dan Quinn has ties to Charlie Weis due to their time together at Florida. Quinn as Head Coach Weis as Offensive Coordinator A coach of Quinns choice as DC (Maybe Dunbar if we keep him) Sign me up for that shit tomorrow. Pass on Weis - guy has done nothing of note without SparklePony as his QB. Like the idea of Trestman if it falls through with Tampa or Jax. Last year aside, what he got out of Cutler and McCown in '13 was top-notch. Weis made Matt Cassel look like a pro bowl QB in 2010 and helped the Chiefs reach 10-6. Weis the head coach is mediocre, but Weis the play caller is a damn good OC. I'd love Trestman but I honestly doubt both jobs fall through.

Weis wasn't in New England in 2010, he had already been at Notre Dame for 5 years. But I get your point. Guy is shit as a HC but he's definitely been a successful OC.

Hes always been a really good OC.

I just think the HC and his coordinators should be 'of a kind' - like a set of people that go well together. 43-yr-old Quinn (and I know nothing about him really) plus Trestman - just gut-check, it doesn't feel like a natural fit to me. Looking over Trestman's resume - I can see the interest. His offenses have preformed and well for the most part. Last season was a bit scary - the Bears O was terrible and for no apparent reason. . .

Trestman will be long gone once a GM and HC is selected in this turtle pace. He'll be in Tampa. The Jets could offer Marrone the OC once he bombs.

quinn could be the guy but imo they really should be looking at someone who has some hc credentials. none of these guys seem to be bowling anyone over. i really think the jets need to judge rex objectively as they pursue the next guy. they may find that they are taking a step backwards.

After KC, he went to Florida to be their OC while Quinn was the DC, and now he is currently at Kansas. Whispers are Quinn is already planning a staff and Kyle Shannahan is the OC of choice right now. I fucking love Quinn already if that's true.

Hes always been a really good OC. At the Jets when Parcells took away his playcalling duties? At the Pats when they were terrible before Brady? At ND where outside of '06 the team was a constant letdown (ND alums would back me up)? I'll give you his one year in KC, but it's not like they were a top-10 offense then either. I just think the guy has been massively overrated because of the three rings. Guess I've just never been impressed - for me it's good to see he's not in the picture.
