Explain this like you would to a child. Please Sure Issue #1 - is Google indexing this site? Google has their own view of the 'web' - like a phone book they'll grant some businesses full-page ads and others will just get a single line. The amount of importance they give you is related to how deeply they index your site - basically how much of your content do their robots bother to scan. If the answer is 'not much' then you web site is going to have a hard time generating traffic. I am not sure WHY Google is doing this but this threads may be getting the most commenting so Google starts to 'think' that that is what this site is about. Which leads to the second problem - Google doesn't seem to know or care that this site is a NYJets fan forum. The site is buried on direct searches for it: www.google.com/search?q=new+york+jets+fan+forum&ei=rIysWoTSDcrm_QaRpLu4Bg&start=20&sa=N&biw=1295&bih=759And shows up on page two for related searches simply by luck - because one of the navigation terms on the site is "forum" TL;DR - Google is probably suppressing this site's web presence either because they don't like it or are legitimately confused about it. If you want more traffic, you'll need to find a way around that situation. Interesting. Guess I never really gave a fuck about this stuff but that was enlightening. So so what is the solution?

There are things you CAN do to work around Google to the extent that you can generate more traffic. But the other part of that equation is if you can then monetize that traffic. Adsense is out - but you can look into alternatives. Here are a couple that this site won't run afoul of just because of tits and curses etc yllitwitter.com/en/popcash.netchitika.comAnd also this one - though I think they may rule the Hampur out: propellerads.comThat's the ballgame. Figure out the ways you can get more traffic here; figure out a partner to help you monetize it. Only downside is forum members have to sit through some ads - maybe encourage them to click on a few once in a while (depending on the ad partners payment model). If you can find a monetization partner, then you have a reason to think about tacking the site-traffic issue. Which can be solved in a variety of ways......

Well I don't know how 'badly' Google thinks of this place - but the thing to do would be to start generating content that Google would index preferentially. Forum sites are different than a regular site - so I am not 100% sure on how Google treats them - but some ideas would be: 1) Have mods start some threads with titles that reflect stuff Jets fan might search for. So, for example, if a thread titled "Bowles can suck my bowels" is ACTUALLY about which FAs NYJs are looking at, a mod could change the title to "New York Jets Free Agent Targets 2018". Of course, not every thread has to be whitewashed like this - just an example - this site NEEDS some indexable content. A mod can also START a few threads with those clearly indexable titles Over time, those Hampur threads will pop up in all sorts of general and highly-specific NYJ traffic. 2) Write actual content So, some blogs pieces or news pieces. Maybe once a week or even once a month. Normally you'd want to set the bar pretty high but even meeting lowly expectations - churning out a 500-word piece - would pull pretty well with Google. 3) Share content Are there any forum members who have sports blogs? Like Paradis? They may monetize their own blogs but be open to ALSO posting their content within this site. Having their content here would also help this site surface in google searches and give the site some link-authority. 4) Do some SEO fixes
SEO (search engine optimization) helps your site fix its' issues so it can be indexed more deeply, clearly, etc. It used to be more of a black art but then Google deeply changed how they do things. Still, there are some SEO things that can help Google work better with this site. There are some other things too - but these few are the basic place to start.

Oh - and a big #5 frankly - it should be clearer to anyone landing here that this is a site where people can talk sports (jets in this case) like the filthy bastards they are. From an - ahem - branding perceptive - that's not really clear enough. You can generate traffic but you also really want a new user to grok what the site is and decide to poke around and stick around.
As a place to start, you'd like to know a few things:
1) What is the site's currently monthly unique traffic? What was the highest point? That may give you an idea of what realistic near-term max-traffic looks like.
2) Take that number to the ad partner and figure out what the $ looks like if you hit that level of traffic again
That will tell you what's worth doing.
3) Also, look into whatever the software is that hosts/presents this forum and see if they offer any SEO or optimization tools.

Personally, I love the idiocy of this place but I assume some of the over the top stuff will always hurt us. I’m not a prude by any stretch but if the T&A hurts us, I don’rPt see a need to have it here. There are a million sites only to find all of that.
I do love coming to this place and I’d hate to see it die.
I’m not sure who could or would do any real Jets related writing. I was asked to be a writer on another board before. I can actually write pretty well but I found doing it tedious. I prefer just being a poster.

When there is a lower membership and a handful of die hard fans that go back a long way together, then that's what the site becomes and stays. A lot of their posts are funny as hell, d Done mostly out of comradery and boredom. That should stay and should be encouraged. New membership, new posts, etc. will make the site more interesting and diverse.
