Had a career year, could be due to regress back to the mean. Guys getting a 4 yr, $15-16 M contract. They can get comparable results for less money, most likely. Or if you want to spend that kind of coin, go sign Gostkowski. Bumping this after yesterday, and hearing that Myers has kicked 28, 29, 72 straight FGs or some such. I was way wrong. Should have locked him up. Our dumpster diving for kickers was on display yesterday, and all season. Yeah was a blurb on the athletic today about what a stunningly stupid fucking move it was not to sign Myers.

It was truly penny wise, pound foolish, as they say, by Maccagnan. Compounded by the fact that we cant even seem to find a league-average kicker to replace him.

Don't need him when you have a Sergio Castillo. Stupid fucker missing from 37, 41 and 43 yards, not that it would of mattered. Let him tank out the rest of the season with the other Division II players the Jets call a team and show him the door at the end of the season. Wouldn't want a competent kicker screwing up the #1 pick.

There are many puzzling moves the Jets have made over the years but when you have a kicker who is money on his kicks, pay him. You can't underestimate how much a guy like Jason Myers helps a team. The Seacocks understood this concept and compensated him fairly and now they have a position on the team they do not have to worry about. Like the GM of the Jets has enough to worry about without lumping on the kicking game when you have a god kicker. Myers has a 4 year contract worth about $4M a year with $7M guaranteed. While this makes him one of the highest paid kickers in the game, it seems reasonable to me for what he brings to the table. Conversely, the Jets signed Ficken to a two year $1.7M contract or about $586,000/per year quite a difference. While Ficken is a serviceable kicker, although currently hurt, given the choice I'd pay Myers and forget about it for the next 8 years.
