As much as everyone says they're glad to see him go, I bet there are 1 to 2 Bills threads visible on the first page here for at least a year. We love the guy and we're gonna be fascinated with him for a while, admit it.

I've been pretty clear and unapologetic that I think Rex got a raw deal and, had we not already changed the GM once and kept Rex at HC, we likely would have retained him after this season. That said, I'm a Jets fan first and foremost, 110%. I think letting him go will be looked back upon with regret by both Woody and fans alike. Rex has flaws, several of them, but to me the good outweighed the bad. I don't just want a good coach with some great general management experience who can consistently get us to 8 or 9 wins with the occasional playoff flirtation. I want a guy who, even if he follows up an 8 win season with a 4 win season, you know he could uncork an 11 win season and make a serious, hard push to a Conference title while leaving HOF quarterbacks in tears on their own 50 yard lines in the playoffs.
I think the reason that Rex is going to "echo" around here for a while isn't just because he went to the Bills, it's because we feel like we had a glimpse of what might have been. We feel like it wasn't just luck that the Jets made serious noise for a while and even this year, lost by only 1 point and then 2 points to the AFC's #1 seed. My personal opinion is that we took a guy with little offensive experience and handicapped him with no QB. We took a guy with a dynamite defensive scheme predicated on CBs and gave him arguably the worst CB tandem in the league while we watched the best player the Jets ever drafted go to a division rival. We never had a GM strong enough to force the right OC on Rex. Rex needed that. A good organization accentuates the strengths of its people and works to mitigate their weaknesses. It doesn't neuter a guys defense by ignoring FA cornerbacks and continuing to give him a subpar QB.
I'm not afraid to say that I think the Jets got rid of one of the few good parts of the team when they ditched Rex. But again, I also see the several reasons why people felt he was coming up short, and those are all valid arguments. Again, it's just my opinion but I think the Jets screwed up the GM hire two years ago so royally that Rex became collateral damage.
Go Jets!

I'm already over it.
I've been over it.
Rex wasn't going to dupe my ass into wanting to bring him back again like he did last year with a couple of meaningless wins at the end of the season. His weaknesses as a HC became increasingly glaring this year. You're always going to have an offense trapped in the fucking stone age with this guy. Marty had a reputation as one of the most aggressive, pass happy OC's in the league. Which is supposedly exactly why Rex hired him. He had absolutely no prior history of running the ball 49 times in a single game or rolling out these goofy wildcat packages. That's Rex's doing, 100%.
And this is exactly why Rex hired Greg Roman. I guarantee he has visions of Manuel running the option like Kap in San Fran.
And it's bound to fail...horribly.

Absolutely agree. Rex had to be fired as part of his evolution as a HC because he was on a down hill trend. I personally believe he's not stupid and will learn from his years here and will be one of the all time greats.
And I agree that it's not just his going to the Bills... Atlanta would have resulted in just as much attention, maybe the 49'rs not so much but still, Love him or hate him we are going to remain fascinated with him for some time to come.

Seriously. I just feel that talent-wise, our offense was almost a train wreck right out of the gates. We cut Stephen Hill who some thought could still become the #2 WR. We saw that his replacement, David Nelson, was almost as bad. How many teams actually CUT their #2 WR? We got rid of Nelson. Then how many weeks was Decker hurt for (either not playing or playing at 60%)? There were weeks when we had a #1 WR of Jeremy Kerley. That makes having a passing game tough enough, but then you realize it's Geno Smith who is trying to elevate the game of an undermined WR corps and you understand why we're trying to run the ball a bazillion times. Nevermind the defense, who was starting CBs that no one had ever heard of before. In FA this past March the Jets pursued Vontae Davis very hard, then let Darrelle Revis walk by. We can watch BOTH of those guys in the AFC Championship next weekend if people don't think CBs are important. Fans were nervous about who would start opposite Milliner when Dimitri Patterson was cut before the season even started. The big worry should have been who would start FOR...and not opposite Glass Milliner. This year was simply a mess. I put 60% of it on Idzik, 20% on MM and 20% on Rex Ryan from a non-player blame perspective.

Make sure you can revise the dates on that tombstone lol jk. But I do see your point especially during Idzik's run as GM. But a lot of the players on the football team during Rex's tenure are the players that he wanted including the draft and free agency. So at the same time you say that Rex got screwed by the lack of talent you can also say that Rex screwed himself with "his players", his horrible clock management, and his consistent failure to make in-game adjustments throughout his tenure. I like Rex the person and I wish him the very best and I hope Buddy Ryan gets better too. But lets face it on paper Rex took quite possibly the worst spot he could of taken as a head coach for a team with no QB, an already strong defense, a weak offense and shaky ownership. Good luck with that. I am one of those fans that are more than comfortable with this situation. Go Jets!

My concern is that he finally learns from his mistakes, improves those weaknesses, and that it happens at a division rival.

He should have taken time as a DC/Assistant HC between coaching stints to recover and learn some lessons about his time in NY.
I don't doubt he'll have Buffalo's defense in the top 5 next year. I also don't doubt that he'll continue to struggle with implementing an effective offense and managing the clock.

Rex will land on his feet even after the Bills. taking the job was an emotional move which leads me tom believe he would have failed once again at NYJ world and I am a rex guy!

Prediction: Buffalo will lead the league in penalties, turnovers, and mismanaged timeouts and clock handling. They will be at the bottom of the league in points scored, red-zone scoring efficiency and overall fan morale.
Good luck, Rex.

Rex's fanboys? No, they can't get over him. Those of us who realize enough was enough and that he was partially to blame for this mess and was time to move on? We've been over it.

These Rex threads aren't going to go away anytime soon, he's been out of the organization for like 5 minutes. But now that he decided he has to stay in our division (whatever his motivations are we won't really know), you can expect Rex threads to persist.

I wont miss him the guy has been hyped by the fan base Tim Tebow coming in here with Denver and shredding Rex with Revis island proves that this guy is an average DC. Been over this guy 3 years ago. Average DC terrible HC.
