God damn I am getting old. I just went to DMV again and amazing they got even worse than the last time I was there. Then in my old person way I wanted to submit a complaint but their form has a character limit so even that is piss poor.
When you enter the Randolph DMV you have to wait in a single line to find out what forms you need and then wait in that same line again to get a number to wait to be called. Having a single line as a bottle neck is horrible logistics. We then had to sit and wait for numbers to be called with absolutely no idea how long the wait would be because instead of having sequential numbers there are several series of numbers starting with a letter. I presume this is to send people to the right window for the service they need. However if this was run like a store there would be windows for specific services that would eliminate the need for the first desk and the number system. The best system would be for everyone at every window to be able to complete all of the services necessary or at least the most common services.
Can you imagine a store being run like this? No one would ever go because there are other options but DMV has a monopoly so we are at their mercy. Everyone in the waiting room was annoyed and complaining. The staff was angry and rude. Then to top it off they told us at 3:00 they had to warn us that if we weren’t helped by 4:30 we would have to leave because they have to close promptly at 4:30. What happened to the concept of customer service? I felt really bad for the people that came after us because they stopped letting people in but instead had them waiting outside in the rain.
DMV has been the butt of the joke for a long time and they are doing nothing to help their image. Hire someone from retail management that knows how to make things run smoothly. Go to the local ShopRite and look at the stream of people going in and out on any day and you will see how things can run with a high volume of customers.
DMV is just pathetic and people want us to turn over health care and everything else to similar agencies.
