Simpsons Actor Hank Azaria Says He Will No Longer Voice Convenience Store Owner Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
White actor Hank Azaria announced late Friday that he will no longer perform the voice of The Simpsons’ Indian convenience store owner Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. His portrayal has come under increasing scrutiny after Indian-American comedian Hari Kondabolu’s 2017 documentary The Problem With Apu, which suggested the character was founded on racial stereotypes including Apu’s job, arranged marriage and accent. The Simpsons producers have not said whether Apu will get a new voice or be written out of the program. “All we know there is I won’t be doing the voice anymore, unless there’s some way to transition it or something,” Azaria told the website SlashFilm Friday. “We all made the decision together... We all agreed on it. We all feel like it's the right thing and good about it.”

A guy dressed with a cardboard box around him like a counter , a few slurpee cups glued to the board and a dot on his head. Walked around all night saying... "You want slurpee?" Very much pleasing to give you slurpee.

I work with Indians. They have accents, and arranged marriages.
How is that wrong then?

Fuck the PC soft heads for bringing this up 30 years into the shows run and fuck Hank Azaria for being a pusscake. Just end the show, right? They insulted* everyone and everything. Now this is sacred? And now you give a shit? Then end it. What does it say about everyone else you continue to insult.* Sounds to me like Azaria is being the willing fall guy for puss-cakes up the ladder but who knows. I dont know anything about his politics (nor do I care to). *insult: make fun of stereotypes that are partially true no matter what anyone says

Is it a stereotype if it’s true?

Is it a stereotype if it’s true? Only on St. Patricks day, apparently.

It would be nice if people had a sense of humour.
Alternately, it would be nice if this "absolutely no use of stereotypes in entertainment/comedy" rule was applied universally.

There would be no comedy if choice B was applied. So much of comedy is about uncomfortable truths and things that are..that we dont always see. The genius of comedy is confronting people with this stuff but we live in an age where many want to censor, tear down statues, ban speakers, disrupt the display of political thought by others...a whole segment of society wants to eradicate what they dont like and find unpleasant. Impeachment? Our slippery slope is getting precariously slippier.

I do not see these things as celebrating anything either.

Part of the history of this country is how far we have come...in a world full of sh*tty countries. Erase, history, we are destined to repeat it again. Those statues should stand not as tributes...but reminders. That's my view. I really dont care if some rednecks revere them. They are slowly being left behind and they know it.

You don't see a statue as honoring the person it represents? That's interesting, what would you say a statue of a person IS for then?

Does not having a road here in VA named after Confederate PResident Jefferson Davis "erase history", or will people still know we had a Civil War even if that road is renamed? Do we need statues to remember the bad guys in a War? Should Berlin have a statue of Hitler, you know, so they can "remember"? Should we erect statues of rapists so we can "remember" rape is a thing?

Have you seen any interviews with current college kids? They are barely literate..if not illiterate in American History. Its no accident. People 10 years younger than me have barely a grasp of it. Books are disappearing, the internetz is the library. When you control the internetz you control the history. You control the history, you control the thought. C'mon. You know this.
