Does not having a road here in VA named after Confederate PResident Jefferson Davis "erase history", or will people still know we had a Civil War even if that road is renamed? Do we need statues to remember the bad guys in a War? Should Berlin have a statue of Hitler, you know, so they can "remember"? Should we erect statues of rapists so we can "remember" rape is a thing? Have you seen any interviews with current college kids? They are barely literate..if not illiterate in American History. Its no accident. People 10 years younger than me have barely a grasp of it. Books are disappearing, the internetz is the library. When you control the internetz you control the history. You control the history, you control the thought. C'mon. You know this. That didn't answer any of what I asked. It was "old man shaked cane at cloud" at best, and probably warrants an "OK Boomer" reply and little else. Point of fact, I both hire "kids" and go to college myself still (yes, old man in college) and no mate, they're not, as a whole, barely literate. Not even close, they blow most old folks out of the water in my experience. But I'd like to hear your thoughts on the actual questions I asked you. Hitler statue, yay/nay? Rape statue, yay/nay? Is it possible to remember history without honoring the bad guy with a statue? Or, and lets be honest, do you not think the Confederates were really bad guys in the first place? |

The USA isn't Germany. Our history and mistakes are ours. We choose how to remember, recognize, or regret them as we do. Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis weren't in the same galaxy as Hitler.
