Its funny, so many people saying this is basically as bad as the flu but then we have countries quarantining cities (millions of people), closing schools for a MONTH, closing borders and banning travel. So which is it. Is this the beginning of the zombie apocalypse or are a bunch of people getting a cold?

I'm also thinking about the electric car industry. We get most of the minerals from China for making batteries. Might be time to sell Tesla short.
<edit> guess I am late to the party on this one They have dropped from 900 to 750 in the past week.

guess I am late to the party on this one They have dropped from 900 to 750 in the past week. One silver lining overall may be a new awareness of our supply chains where deliverability/access trumps price. I was happy to see Josh Hawley move quickly to highlight the need for it: www.nationalreview.com/news/josh-hawley-announces-bill-to-reduce-u-s-reliance-on-chinese-medical-supply-chain/Josh Hawley Announces Bill to Reduce U.S. Reliance on Chinese Medical Supply ChainSen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) questions U.S. Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz (not pictured) during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., December 11, 2019. (Erin Scott/Reuters) Senator Josh Hawley (R., Mo.) announced on Tuesday that he will introduce a bill that would diversify the U.S. medical supply chain in order to reduce reliance on Chinese products.
“If the Coronavirus crisis makes anything clear, it’s that we need to stop relying on China for our critical medical supply chains,” Hawley wrote on Twitter. “I will introduce legislation this week to jump start that effort.”
On Monday, Hawley sent a letter to Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn asking how the agency plans to deal with a potential medical supply shortage caused by the onset of the coronavirus in China.
“The recent outbreak of novel coronavirus has threatened the domestic supply of some 150 prescription drugs, including antibiotics, generics, and branded drugs. Some of these drugs do not have alternatives on the market,” Hawley wrote in the letter. “The degree to which some of our own manufacturers rely on China to produce life-saving and life-sustaining medications is inexcusable.”

On Shoring should definitely be a priority, especially for necessities like medicine, steel, etc. At least we are currently energy independent.

Not finding an article on this directly - but the WHO chief had an interesting comment today regarding virulence:
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Thursday [recent findings] “demonstrate what this virus is capable of.”
“But this virus is not influenza,” he said. “With the right measures, it can be contained. That is one of the key messages from China. The evidence we have is that there does not appear to be widespread community transmission. In Guangdong, scientists tested more than 320,000 samples from the community and only 0.14 percent were positive for COVID-19. That suggests containment is possible.”

The people who literally have their cities littered with shit, piss and hypodermic needles are trying to tell us about health. And The Enemy of the People are helping them.

You get cancel for any reason insurance? I read about a family that tried to cancel a 50k cruise because of this and they were denied. I let the wife handle it, told her to insure it. The subject of not going hasnt even come up because she'll blame me for not wanting to go to begin with or some shit. This will end up being my fault either way. I am so glad we went last May. Outstanding trip. Loved every minute of it. What parts are you going to? Amalfi Coast. Havent heard it mentioned but at this rate, its going there too. United and Delta just announced they are waiving ticket changing fees to Northern Italy. Maybe the hotel would work with you too. Good luck.
