I wonder how Christians call themselves Christians, yet still adhere to the "Old Testament," which is literally the beliefs of entire jewish religion, the Tanakh. So you have the Tanakh (entire Old Testament) then Jesus comes. This is when Christianity is born, the one thing that separates Jews and Christians. Now, I don't understand why a Christian would follow the laws of another religion, when that religion denies a Christian's sole purpose of existence, Jesus as messiah. Just as Muslims dont follow the laws of the New Testament or Tanakh (Old Testament) but incorporate both into their religion (Jesus as a prophet, Moses, etc), they would never cite either as a source for laws of life. Just as Mohammad gave a code of law for muslims, Jesus gave a code of law, and, in a few places, contradicts the old testament, even though he was Jewish.
Two quick examples are that in the Old Testament, it says an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. In the New Testament, Jesus specifically says: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."
Another example is when Jesus breaks the Sabbath. There are more if you look at them.
It seems to me, that when Christians want to justify some base desire for revenge or violence, they refer to the old testament, which is JEWISH law. But when they're in church singing la dee da, they think back on how kind and gentle Christ was. But then, in their political stances, they take the most anti-christ stance imaginable.
To me if you are a Christian, you take your morals only from Christ, not an entire other religion who denies Jesus as Messiah, a religion whose commandments in places even contradict the words of Christ. Are you Christian by name only?
