Any of you ever sell a car to Carmax? I did a car value estimate on Edmunds.com and it gave a "Guaranteed" Carmax offer about 30% above their estimate for selling it on my own. Seems too good to be true. The closest Carmax to me is about an hour+ away and we would have to take 2 cars just to see if they are for real on the price. Wanted to get some feedback from people I trust before taking my time to bring it there. Thoughts? My initial reaction is if something seems too good to be true then it probably is.

I would assume they are just like everyone else...estimate suddenly drops after they inspect it, right?

I was very honest about the condition, listed that it was in 1 accident and has a body panel that needs repair. Their disclaimer says, "*The offer from CarMax is contingent on your providing accurate information on Edmunds.com. CarMax will conduct an in-person verification of your vehicle and evaluate other vehicle use and history information prior to finalizing the offer. Any differences between the information you provide about your vehicle and the vehicle's actual condition, use, and history may impact the offer you receive from CarMax."

Ive sold several cars to carmax. They gave me a better price than what i could get on my own. It is no haggle though...but they've always honored their on-site appraisal that they've given me.
Another avenue you may want to check out is selling to Carvana if you have one nearby. I haven't sold to them but they've offered me decent online appraisals.

Worst case is they lower the offer and you're out 2 hours driving time r/t. Frankly, unless its a substantial chunk of change I'm probably going with the least amount of hassle.

It is a 2005 Mustang 6 cyl Convertible. Only 60k miles, new top and decent shape other than a small dent in the front fender where my dad bumped the fence post. It has 1 accident from getting hit in a parking lot. Carfax $8100 Carvana $4300

Conversely, has anyone bought a car from Carmax or carvana or any of those sites?
My BIL works at a dealership and says there’s hardly any markup buying off the lot these days because everyone can find a similar vehicle online and show the dealer and say ‘can you beat this price?’
Mrs Big L will be needing a new vehicle soon and wondering if these online shops are worth it/any good

Their used prices seem a bit lofty imho. I suspect carmax make their money on volume. They will try to sell you extended warranties. Otherwise fairly painless.

Sorry I don't have any insight into Carmax but I wish you good luck and hope the deal goes as advertized One question though, who are these people you speak of that you trust?
