Tornadoes are nasty. Never been through one, but I’ve seen first hand the immediate damage. EF-3. Absolute devastation in its path. Recently was 10 yr anniversary of the one I saw, and on google maps you can still see the scar of the path it took across the land.

I always found it odd people who live in tornado/hurricane areas and build their houses out of wood.

I always found it odd people who live in tornado/hurricane areas and build their houses out of wood. "Stick Built" as some refer to. I wish I had a good answer for you. It comes down to cost and availability of skilled labor to do the mason/stone work here.

I always found it odd people who live in tornado/hurricane areas and build their houses out of wood. they're supposed to have framing tie-downs (I think that's what they're called), among other things. Rebar every few feet that connect concrete to wood framing. Picture above doesn't show them so probably didn't have them

I always found it odd people who live in tornado/hurricane areas and build their houses out of wood. Quite a few buildings/homes that were made out of bricks/concrete blocks got leveled to the ground. Saw a meteorologist describing how there were massive debris fields circulating near the top of the tornado that were high enough to be in flight-paths. Fucking crazy.

I saw 3 tornadoes in San Antonio when I was in basic training and 1 when I was stationed in Oklahoma City. A few years after I came home, 1999 I think, a huge tornado tore through Midwest City, OK which is a suburb of OKC and it wiped out the house I used to rent. That is one of the few things that is making me hesitate from moving to the midwest. In NJ we had a tornado come through about 9 years ago, it dropped some hail and ripped out some trees and that was it.

Then Moore got another bad one in 2013 or so. Devastating. Lost a old usaf roomie in the one from 99. The ones out there are different. No doubt.
