You know I really wasn't understanding what was going on with Russia and Ukraine until Kamala gave her great insight. Solid analysis! Dear God...she's the Phil Simms of the WH.

^^Concerning "the promise" by NATO to not extend towards the East, I'm not sure if this was part of a signed treaty or just an oral promise. In any case, it was a mistake to go as far as Ukraine, it was obvious it would infuriate Putin.

Heres a different bit I linked a few weeks ago. Keep in mind its about 6 years old or so..if you have the time to watch it:

Ukraine isn't a NATO country they just said if Russia keeps threatening us we will ask to be a part of NATO. The irony is that if Russia takes Ukraine then they are surrounded by NATO countries in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Latvia, and Estonia so he is creating the "problem" he didn't want. I think that was just an excuse.

In any case, the real thing is for Putin all the independant satellite countries created post USSR still have to pledge allegiance to Russia and Ukraine has been pissing him off leaning towards the EU, NATO..

Yeah - I get Russia's POV but they've had PLENTY of time and opportunity to work these issues through diplomatically and they've also forced the hands of other nations with the incursions/occupations into Georgia, Crimea, etc. They can't have it both ways and consider that a situation that can credibly be solved through diplomacy. I don't want any US or NATO involvement at this point, but I think the pile-up on them from every angle going on right now is exactly right. If this weakens Putin and/or Russia internally, which it very well might - that would be a big fat message getting across to China, a lesson about modern overreach where things don't just fade away and in fact they move blindingly fast.
