so my mom is 87, her and pops (89) have been self-sufficient in a beautiful house in maine for the past 20 years within the last month, she's gone from 100% mom... to losing her train of thought... to episodes of strange things... to basically dementia needing eyes on her 24/7, because of some scary shit waitlists just too see a neurologist are months (fucking MONTHS)... waitlists for memory care housing and other assistance are up to a fucking YEAR any long-term care involving medicaid involves draining every asset they own before it kicks in our fucking health care system is BROKEN, and we all know who fucking broke it 6 siblings between us, all living down from CT to Virginia...been taking turns spending whatever time we can up there trying to maintain 24/7 coverage with the help from some local friends and occasional visiting nurses. unsustainable long-term... fucking crazy anyway if any of you have dealt with it with a family member, god bless you, it is fucking brutal and i don't know how you got through it long term. i'm shot from my week up there, now my wife is there with my sister and the stories they're sharing are nightmares If you're absolutely certain she was 100% a month ago, then I'd get another opinion. Not to say it can't happen, but I've never heard of someone deteriorating that quickly due to dementia. I'd suggest that this may be a UTI. They are insidious, especially in elderly women, and can lead to a rapid decline in mental faculties, along with leading to urosepsis. Trust me, this is worth looking into if you haven't (with HIGH confidence) already.

Like most older people, I'm sure her kidneys aren't clearing the way they should, so toxicity of some sort could certainly be in play. Want to bounce stuff off of me, don't hesitate to hit me up. I would take her to an ER and have her worked up for a UTI. You could go to an urgent care, but they may escalate and pass her off to an ER anyway. What Jets Things suggested is a start, maybe try AZO as I've heard people swear by it

He loved beets and also took beet supplements. Was always worried that due to his supplements and diet that he was getting way too much potassium.

Overnight, good thing is (relatively) that she is showing all the signs and behaviors while at the hospital, so she is getting very attentive care. I told my wife to insist they get a nephrologist in, i'm convinced this is UTI and toxicity related. all too fast. thanks for your input, like i said, ask away. you may even get a phone call from shakin if we get to that point. appreciate it man, 100%
