Thanks. It's weird. She's usually fine with people taking time for personal reasons. But this holiday is bizarre. She says that no company gives off MLK Day, which is just untrue in our industry. She likes to think she knows something we don't. Or she's trying to please her boss, who mostly works in India, where our parent company is, and who, of course, don't have the holiday. But you're right. I should be able to stay with my husband while he's in the Intensive care. Yes, and If she is that heartless email me. I like to hurry those types of people along the line to extinction ROAD TRIP

No problem! Hopefully the stupid shit we post gives you a smile or two whilst at the hospital. Absolutely, it's what keeps me sane -- and if that isn't a scary thought! Props for the funny pic thread and all the rest of craziness on here in 2015. The wi-fi at the hospital didn't work for 3 days, only came back on last night. What an aggravation. Now I'm just finished working for the day and screwing around online here. Have to go pack up and drive to the hospital. Probably be there again until 1 or 2 am. Thanks, everyone! I work in Healthcare IT. This would never be allowed in my network. We treat the guest network with the same intensity as the production network. People stuck in beds must have three things, food, phone and porn err I mean internet.

Hi LSL,
I hope your hubby feels better soon. Just donated some gas money. Hope it helps a small bit. Both of you are in our prayers.

Just finished working 10.5 hours and have to run over to the hospital now. I was hoping to go over at a reasonable hour today (since I was there till 1:30 am last night) but these work projects are nuts and the clients demand everything right away. My boss "in the nicest possible way" asked me if I would work this weekend because we have to bid on another project. I told her No I couldn't work this weekend, that I had to do things -- I didn't mention they were catch up on sleep, spend time at the hospital, run errands, do housework, all these fun things -- she doesn't need to know, but I just don't want to work this weekend. We're salaried so it doesn't affect my pay. She backed off and said, oh of course, you have other things to deal with. ... Ya think? /end rant Sorry about that. It's been a long day and I haven't even been able to get my fix of the hampur today. Just dropped in to post this, and off I go to the hospital.

There is no way I would expect my staff to report to work dealing with the stuff your dealing with. Priorities and all. Look into the intermittent family medical leave act. Your company has to provide it. You might even qualify for full leave. If you have short term disability insurance you will get 2/3's of your salary for up to 6 months. Your asshole boss is force to legally hold your position open for you for 12 full weeks. Good luck!!

Thanks for the info! My company is so small (about 10 people; owned by a bigger company in India) and most of us work from home, so if one person is out, then it really screws up the projects. But at least I can take off during the day and they don't know, and generally they've been good about my taking time to bring my husband to doctor's appts without it counting as vacation days.
I just think that right now, my boss is trying to impress her boss, because another person between them hierarchically left the company. So she's pushing to get things done that she needs to show her boss, which is what she wanted me to work on this weekend. It's weird because the work will get done on Monday so I don't know why she was acting that way.
Heck with work, I'm going to enjoy the nice weather today and head over to the hospital shortly.

Your asshole boss is force to legally hold your position open for you for 12 full weeks. Good luck!! I don't agree here, and no I am not in her boss's position. Her boss has every right to ask, boss has a company to run and she is responsible to satisfy the customer/client, LSL also has every right to say no. I am of the opinion that what makes the boss is how he/she reacts to LSL after the fact. A boss can't or should not hold it against an employee, especially one in the situation LSL is in. The fact that someone is salaried does not simply say you are 9-5, you are responsible to get the job done, regardless of hours, but you have also understand when and where you are being taken advantage of. If my boss told me we would generate 2mil a month more in sales if the front of the building was re-painted, I would be the first one out there with a brush. I must say though, I have great boss's and they work with us on just about everything, and this is because we work with them. I know when I need to come in on a Saturday and I don't wait to be asked and it's not taken advantage of. I think I end up coming in 2-3 Saturdays a year. As for the FLA, I believe in it but I also think it is taken advantage of, I would never use this like I see people using it. LSL, you are certainly in a position where you need some time, I hope your boss is working with you in a fair way and I hope when you say you can't work Saturday you boss understands. Listen if I where your boss and you where not a slacker and with you going through what you are, you could tell me no because your exhausted and simply need some rest, I would be completely ok with that, and 10hr days tells me your no slacker. I don't know, just my thoughts.

So, I'm pretty stressed out right now. We were told that my husband is being discharged tomorrow. They were going to do it today, with absolutely no warning. F'kn non-communicative idiots! Maybe I wouldn't mind so much, but he's not better yet. He will need 8 to 12 more weeks to heal and they won't keep him in the hospital that long. They could do surgery to try to fix the obstruction, but he's too sick for that and it's too risky right now. Maybe in 8-12 weeks, he would be healed enough for surgery. Of course, the hope is that he heals completely on his own and doesn't need any more surgery. He's still not allowed to drink or eat anything and will be on an IV for nutrition, and maybe other stuff I don't know, when he comes home. So I'm going over there shortly to learn how to administer an IV. (Jworks--where the hell are you when we need you? )
