Funny you should say that ... it's all he's getting now until everything inside starts working again. No liquids even, just IV nutrition. Glad to hear the surgery went well, LSL! Two weeks is a long time, would be surprised if he stayed in the ICU that long. Might be better off though because once he gets bounced to a med-surg floor the TLC he gets may go down as well. Thanks! They said he'll be in ICU until his systems start working again and he can eat. Then he'll go to a regular room. The surgeon said, best case and no complications, he might be able to start on a liquid diet on Friday, a week after surgery. But nothing has happened yet. I know it will take time, so I'm trying not to worry, but I do. Great to hear!!!!! I hope he recovers fast. hope you are holding up, must be so stressful he's lucky to have you. Thanks, it's very stressful and exhausting. Unfortunately, we have no family down here; most is still in NY/CT so I have to handle it all. Not complaining, just the facts. At least on the weekend, I didn't have to work so I could spend a lot of time there with him, even though he was out of it most of the time, plus do some things around the house. Now I'm back at work, trying to focus on that, which seems a bit less important right now. (Well, I'm actually not working quite yet, since I'm on here, ha, ha.) Maybe if he knew the dooshes she talks to online he might feel differently J/k, LSL, glad he made it through, and keep us posted. LOLZ, if he only knew ... He used to read the pfail and other sites to get ... wait for it ... actual Jets and football news. He didn't venture into the hampur. So, he's not "out of the woods" yet. There are some encouraging signs, but until he can take liquids, at least, he can't really start recovering. That will be a big milestone and I'm keeping fingers crossed it happens soon. Thanks again, everyone, for all your well wishes. To all of you on the I-95 corridor, be safe in the upcoming blizzard! Stay inside and stay warm!

I've been in a few serious family medical situations where the waiting for everything to resolve took what seemed like an eternity. Your husband is in very capable hands. So, please make sure that you take good care of yourself during this stressful time. Make it a point to eat right and rest.
Glad there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. Now if only southside could get his act together.

Walking and moving helps a lot with motility. Was never a believer until I started to see for myself in the hospital. Walking after surgery = farts.

I swear, this is such a f'ing roller coaster. After all that, ... telling me he's in ICU for at least a week ... blah, blah ... I just got a call that they're moving my husband to a regular room right now. No explanation why. It's good news, but I think I'm going insane.

I think they give absolute worst case scenario so when they do better than that they look like heroes. And what a relief he doesn't have to be in there all week, right?

So long as they don't stick him in a split room with a curtain while some sickly person coughs and vomits all over the place to the point where the puke is running towards you underneath the curtain...

Walking and moving helps a lot with motility. Was never a believer until I started to see for myself in the hospital. Walking after surgery = farts. Why is that? Does it have something to do with the anesthesia? The condition is referred to as 'ileus' and most will say it has numerous causes that include prep leading up to a surgery, the surgery itself, and anesthesia. There are also instances of abdominal surgeries that can result in what is called a paralytic ileus, which is really bad. Pain meds can also contribute to that. I swear, this is such a f'ing roller coaster. After all that, ... telling me he's in ICU for at least a week ... blah, blah ... I just got a call that they're moving my husband to a regular room right now. No explanation why. It's good news, but I think I'm going insane. Hmmm. I'm thinking they wanted to make room for any potential patients and your husband was the most stable to be "stepped-down." Shitty motivation, but overall a good thing.

Nothing great, but thanks for asking. He's still in the hospital room. They took out the nose tube and have allowed him some liquids (broth, juice, etc) but he's not drinking much. No solid food at all yet. He's still in pain and discomfort. It's also painful to sit up but he does take walks around with assistance. Some nurses say there are some sounds, which is good, but he hasn't passed gas yet and it's a week since the last surgery, which is not good. Please let my husband fart -- said by a wife never! -- except for today by me. The surgeon told him today he's a "tough nut" meaning my husband is not getting better as fast as the surgeon expected. The hospitalist seems more optimistic. So who really knows what his prognosis is. But the surgeon won't be back until Monday so it's doubtful he will be discharged until at least next week. Guess we'll be watching the Super Bowl and the cheating scumbags on a hospital room TV with crappy sound and picture.
