My only real memory of him was when I was 10 in '73 and he slid hard into Buddy Harrelson during the NLCS and they brawled. I was enthralled, lol. Murky unremarkable memories of him moving on to managing etc. after that. Then the gambling shit. Some really mundane mutherfuckers made it to the Hall while he twisted in the wind due to the gambling, so I was always kinda torn about his being shut out. Him dying before it happened is kinda sad, it was important to him despite the fact he basically f*cked himself out of it.
RIHSB, an all time great.

flawed man but tremendous player. I visited Cooperstown in 2002. Rose was listed on all the great offensive lists…. While they deny him a bust and official membership, he IS (and Fukk them) in the HOF. I was a kid when he fought Bud Harrelson on in the NLCS. It was daytime… we watched it in science class. The good ole days. RIP Sr. Charlie Hustle.
