Rex Ryan can't bring himself to say Geno Smith gives Jets best chance to win
FLORHAM PARK — With conflicting reports flying around about who made the call to replace Michael Vick with Geno Smith as the Jets' starting quarterback, head coach Rex Ryan opened his Wednesday press conference by declaring, "Everybody's on board with this decision."
"It was 100 percent our decision," Ryan said. So did Idzik talk Ryan out of starting Vick?
"100 percent, no, he did not," Ryan answered.
At this point, whether Ryan or general manager John Idzik made the decision is just whistling past the graveyard. The 2-9 Jets are left to play out the string these last five games, Ryan's job is in peril, and Idzik's might be, too. Ryan did say Tuesday he wanted to give some younger players the opportunity to get some game action as the season winds down. So why not Smith, who gets another chance to see whether he can be a capable NFL quarterback?
Smith, for his part, thought he'd get another shot at some point. He just wasn't sure how it would come.
"I never knew when or where, but I'm glad it's now and I'm glad I have the opportunity and I'm ready to go out there and really show what I've got," Smith said.
Ryan said he wanted to see the tape from Monday night's blowout loss to the Bills before making a decision and consulting with "everybody involved" before the call was made Tuesday afternoon.
"I made—we made the decision that this would be best for our football team," Ryan said.
Ryan said was a "fair statement" to suggest the Jets want "to see how far [Smith] has come." But when asked why he thinks Smith gives the Jets a better chance to win than Vick, Ryan put on his dancing shoes.
"I've said all along that I feel we have two good quarterbacks," Ryan said. "He's a young football player that, I think, let's put him back out there, and let's see how much he's learned from the experience."
Asked the same questions again, point-blank, Ryan went on.
"I feel both guys give us an opportunity," Ryan said. "Is it a right answer to say the best? I think the best thing for this team right now is to play Geno Smith."

Sounds to me like Rex learned his lesson from repeatedly spewing the same thing about Sanchez, week after fucking week, with a semi-straight face. "He gives us the best chance to win."

Geno Smith still has upside and should get the snaps. There is no reason barring injury to both Sims and Smith that Vick should ever step on the field again for the jets. Posters say that BB stole money form Hess, but Vick should wear a mask and turn off the lights whenever he picks up a jets paycheck. This guy had two jobs to do and did neither, mentor Smith and be ready to come in if Smith needed to leave the game. He abjectly failed at both. His competitive fire must have died with the last dog.
Likewise with Pryor, he should get the snaps at SS as that is where his future lies. Colon should be kicked to the curb and Winters/Dozier be given those snaps. If Winter can or can not play lets find out over the last 5 games. These 5 games are 2015 NY jet tryouts. Idzik should be on the sidelines in practices and during the game so that he can get a handle both on the teams performance and attitudes. Likewise Pantale from the PS.
Rex will benefit as it shows that he is coaching for the team and not just "meaningless" wins, his next employer will notice him putting the team 1st.

Dozier(and Pryor, but I think Pryor is a given) is the one I am really hoping to see.

Well at least if he gets another Head Coaching gig elsewhere, he'll know what NOT to do now. www.insidehoops.com/forum/images/smilies/confusedshrug.gifOf course if the rumors are true, then he'll be doing TV instead.....

I'll be heading to Thanskgiving here in a few hours to a house of 50 or so Bears fans who are chomping at the bit for Rex Ryan(or Harbaugh).

I'd like too take it a step further and have IK play for Babin, Reilly for Pace, and for the love of god please cut Cumberland. Just sign any TE off someones practice squad and give him a chance.

Unfortunately he is going through the concussion protocol. If he is cleared, I agree that he should be starting and getting a lot more snaps than Cumberland. I also expect to see some IK down the stretch and they might as well send Dozier out there instead of Colon.

He missed practice yesterday and Rex mentioned that he is going through the protocol.
