Had this on the OTHER site...this one will offer some better analysis I think.....
Here are the rules:
1) 5 cuts
2) 5 resignings....Just put the cost for the first year
3) 5 Free Agents: Enough said
4) 5 Draft picks
Information needed for this game:
PROJECTED 2015 CAP: $140 million (go on the low side to be safe)
2015 JET CAP Space: $41 million
2015 JET CAP WITH CARRY-OVER: $51 Million
A little explanation on your decisions always makes it more interesting......GO!
FIRST UP
The MO Wilkerson debate: I do not think this debate is as easy as many make it out. With Suh stating he wants to play in the NY market, would this team be better to sign Mo for $12 million a season, or Suh for $12 million a season and get a 1st round pick for Mo in a trade? Say what you want, but I think he would get us such a pick in the low 20's in my opinion. To save the argument, Mo is extended here.
2015 hit: $12 million
CAP SPACE: $39 million
5 CUTS
1) Percy Harvin......Is not worth $10 million a season. We now owe a 6th instead of a 4th for his 2014 services. No dead cap issue with the cut
2) Chris Johnson....Swing and a miss....$1.75 in dead money, but $3.5 million in cap savings
3) Calvin Pace....Great warrior, but this time, the cut is for good. $125K in dead money, but $2.1 million in savings
4) Jason Babin....Thanks for the one year, but no point in keeping him. $125K dead money, $1.5 in savings
5) Jeff Cumberland....Personally, I just do not see what he brings for the price tag 0 dead money, $1.9 million in savings
Dead money: $2 million dollars
Cap Savings: $19 million
NEW CAP SPACE: $58 million
5 RESIGNINGS
1) Greg Salas: I don't want Harvin at $10 million, and there is no guarantee he will take less. Salas was utilized better, and offers nice depth for cheap: $1 million
2) Bilal Powell: I want to see what he could bring with more carries. 2015 hit: $1.5 million
3) Jaiquawn Jarrett: I think he has earned a significant pay raise. 2015 hit: $1.5 million
4) Kenrick Ellis: I think he becomes the new starting NT. 2015 hit: $3 million
5) Tanner Purdum: I think David Harris will now be all but gone, and we need a long snapper, so.....$1 million
I did not resign Snacks. I LOVE what he brings, but I think he can command something on the open market. HE is a RFA, and Rex will push for 'HIS' guy and give up a good pick for him. This team has shown it can develop DL. I like Ellis and TJ Barnes enough to believe this could work.
NEW CAP SPACE : $50 million
5 FREE AGENT SIGNINGS
1) Michael Crabtree: There is A LOT of WR talent, some of which will get re-signed or franchised. San Fran has no chance here. They are about $12 million over the projected cap with other free agents to sign. Another interesting name with be Steve Johnson. He will be cut: $6 million savings, no cap hit. But, for now....Crabtree: $6.5 million
2) Clint Boling: Better Pass protector, getting better at the run, two years younger, lesser known, lesser money: $3.5 million.
3) Brooks Reed: WOW...an OLB who can rush the passer, especially if that is his job. With our line, Reed could be scary good. 2015 hit: $4.5 million
4) Walter Thurmond: Unfortunately, thanks to John Idzik, we have to over-pay for a CB this year instead of paying market value last year. 2015 hit: $9 million
5) Antonio Cromartie: With Bowles now in, I see no reason why this could not happen. Double-dipping in FA, and with Millner and McDougle on the bench, we can completely avoid this position in the draft: $6 million.
NEW CAP SPACE: $20.5 million
That still leaves us PLENTY of money to sign a veteran QB, C.J. Spiller, a blocking TE.
5 DRAFT PICKS
1st: Vic Beasley: I don't believe in Mariota as a talent, or Winston as sane enough to avoid the meltdown in a NY media. If Mariota IS available, maybe someone comes calling? There is talent for offense later, but we need LB, and Vic Beasley is a BEAST. With our line, he could be REAL good, especially matched with Brooks Read.
2nd: LT Ty Sambrailo: I do not believe in Brett Hundley, so why take the risk? Sambrailo can play either Tackle position, or fill in at guard. He could push Giacominni this year, and possibly replace Brick in 2016 when his dead cap hit is more manageable.
3rd: QB Bryce Petty: He is projected in 3rd round as of now, he is a senior, he is big, and there is NO chance he sees the field with a vet and Geno. What a concept! Letting a QB sit and learn for a year.
4th: WR Deonte Greenberry: I like 6'3" receivers who won't be asked to do too much in their 1st year. Accept jump for contested balls in the end zone.
5th: RB Jeremy Langford: Going with the triple headed monster again. Let him sit and spell off Ivory and Powell. This however could change if CJ Spiller is signed. If so, maybe you double dip at the QB position and go for a guy like Sean Mannion or Gunner Kiel as well. Zach Vigil at TE might be a good option as well.
All right....critiques and other options. Lets see what everyone has to say.
