hockey is easily the most exciting of the 4 major sports. why isn't it more popular?

It doesn't translate well to TV for whatever reason. Live hockey is 10X better than on TV. Plus, the season is too long with too many playoff. Playoff games are on a whole nuther level that makes the season feel like the preseason.

Totally agree with this. a 10 month season+post season, a post season that plays more games if you make it to the stanley cup than you would play for the whole season and playoffs for football takes the excitement away. Playoff hockey is exciting. Regular season hockey when one game doesn't matter each way can make the most exciting play a meh moment. |

Last time I was in Vegas, we had a limo driver pick us up to take us to our round at Rio Secco. Well this guy could have been an extra in The Hangover. So after almost killing us all by driving like you would expect an illegal Chinese immigrant limo driver to drive, he hits us with this gem of a joke right before our gorgeous "TeeMates" escort us to our respective golf carts:
"So, why Canadiens onry fuck doggy styre?"
Us: "I don't know, why?"
"So they can both watch hockey."

I tried getting into it, but I just can't. On tv, to a novice, there's no order to it. No set plays or well established formations; the puck is constantly flying all over the place making it hard to follow. If you look away for a second (after minutes of the same thrashing back and forth) you might miss the deciding goal of the game.
I get why people like it, but I don't.
Then again, I watch golf on tv. I like Vaseline on toast.
