Also, on this date in 1990, Bruce Coslet is hired as the Jets head coach, replacing Joe Walton. At the time, Coslet was the Bengals offensive coordinator. Two years earlier, Cincy had the top offense in the league and made it to the Super Bowl where they were got beat by the Niners on Montana's TD pass to John Taylor in the final minute. I was really excited by this hire at the time -- we brought in one of the most sought after OCs in the game. Unfortunately, Coslet turned out to be a great coordinator, but a lousy head coach. In his four years as Jets head coach, he led them to a 26-38 record, only one playoff appearance and never won more than 8 games in a season. One of the other guys we considered in the interview process but did not hire -- Mike Holmgren. Hopefully the coordinator that we just brought in will have a much more successful run.

Wasn't Tom Tupa also the first player to score an NFL two point conversion?

Wasn't Tom Tupa also the first player to score an NFL two point conversion? Yes, he was. Playing for Bill Belidick and the Browns in the mid-90s.
