 Good morning Jets fans... On this date in 1984 Leon Hess becomes full owner of the Jets...he bought 25% from Helen Dillion. Walt Michaels quit as Jets HC on this day in 1983.. Also, in 1983 TE Jason Pociask was born. Jason played for the Jets from 2006-2007. Happy Birthday Jason!!!! Have a kickass day all... |

Not sure if this is common knowledge or how true it really is but isn't Hess basically the main reason for the teams name change to 'Jets' (Hess Corp sold jet fuel) and the colors green and white (same colors as Hess)? I don't know all too much about the transition from the Titans.

I don't know all too much about the transition from the Titans. Actually Sonny Werblin was responsible for the team changing its name when he bought the ''Titans'' from Harry Wismer in 1963. Sonny was all about show business---- hence going out ans Signing Joe Namath from the Cardinals, who also drafted Joe as well.
Sonny knew how to put butts in the seats at Shea......
