I remember my dad buying a cell phone from there like 20 something years ago. Thing was the size of a cinder block. I think we also bought our first computer from there.

Got my first Pong game from them for Christmas. The next year dad had to buy the Atari 2600. Writing was on the wall in 77!!

I think it was an IBM. Around 1988-1989. Think pops went for like $4k at the time. L0L.

This was a long time coming. Radio Shack has been routed by the rest of the market in every way imaginable since the 80s. Once consumer electronics started advancing towards replacement over repair Radio Shack's whole business model fell off and they never figured out a new direction to stay competitive.

Once consumer electronics started advancing towards replacement over repair Radio Shack's whole business model fell off and they never figured out a new direction to stay competitive. It was supposed to happen a few years ago, but they fought off the bankruptcy by closing down almost 50% of their stores. It does seem inevitable that they would shut down given almost everyone does electronics now.

The problem is you only really need to go to Radio Shack maybe once every 4 years,,, if your not a dork that is. I have no clue what I will do once every 4 years.

How much longer does Best Buy have? 10 years? 20? It's basically Amazon's display store at this point, for me at least.

They turned the corner and their stock is doing ok. I'm not sure what changed about the stores. Everybody treats them as Amazon's display store.
