Good freezing morning Jets fans....
I had to dig deep for any Jet news on this date...but I found something.
On this date in 1982 former Jet Doug Nienhuis was born in Irvine Ca.
He played college ball at Oregon State and played 7 games for the Jets in 2005 as a guard and tackle..
Happy Birthday Doug!!!
Stay warm Jet fans...

Also on this date -- February 16, 2011, USC announces that Mark Sanchez will be a recipient of their inaugural Young Alumni Merit Award. Per the press release:
"After being selected fifth overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, the Long Beach native became the first rookie quarterback in the NFL to win his first five games as a starter. Sanchez has also won more road playoff games in NFL history than any other quarterback. This year marked his second season in the NFL. With a career total of 41 touchdowns and 3,965 yards with USC, Sanchez earned the merit award based on his leadership through his years with the team."

A couple of items to add to the thread:
2/16/73: The Jets acquired Mike Adamle, RB from KC in a trade that sent Gerry Philbin to the Chiefs. Philbin had been one of the best pass rushers in the AFL and was a star on the 1968 SB team. He never played for KC -- 3 months later they traded him to Philly where he started 6 games for the Eagles in 1973, his last season in the NFL. He played in 1974 for the NY Stars of the World Football League, along with several other former Jets, including George Sauer, Randy Beverly, John Elliott and Babe Parilli. As for Adamle, he played two seasons with the Jets and gained 357 yards on 95 carries.
2/16/84: The Jets traded LB Stan Blinka to Denver in exchange for the Broncos 6th round pick. Blinka, who had played 5 seasons for the Jets, would never play for the Broncos. With the Broncos pick, the Jets selected DB Rich Miano from Hawaii. Miano went on to have a ten year NFL career, including 5 with the Jets. Not a bad return for a 6th rounder.
