Jets' Waldemore wary of blitzing LT By Chuck Stogel Start Writer EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ. - When the Giants "travel" to meet the Jets Sunday at Giants Stadium, the key to the outcome may very well focus on the matchup between the Giants offensive line and the Jets defensive front — specifically, the matchup between Giants right tackle Karl Nelson versus Jets defensive end _m. 'OV Mark Gastineau. "For our passing offense to be successful, Gastineau is the key," said Giants offensive line coach Tom Bresnahan on Thursday. "We have to control him or we'll never get the ball off." According to Giants Head Coach Bill Parcells, there's only one real way to stop Gastineau, who leads the NFL with 18^ sacks. Karl Hoi son ...murt stop Gastineau • n m n w w N i w "Get a jeep and a couple of ropes, and a winch," laughed Parcells. Nelson, a first-year pro who spent his entire rookie season of 1983 on injured reserve, has met Gastineau before. That was this past summer, when the Giants beat the Jets 20-14 in an exhibition game. "He's a challenge, that's for sure," recalled Nelson, who will pit his S-foot-6, 285-pound frame \ against Gastineau's 6-5, 265 pounds. "It was just my second game. I think I did OK. He beat me a few times, but it was a footwork thing I can correct" Gastineau had no sacks in the pre-season matchup, but Nelson isn't getting overconfident. Please see GIANTS on page C3 Immmmmsm THE By Bill Murphy Start Writer HEMPSTEAD, L.I. - In past years. Jets guard Stan Waldemore has taken some "good-natured ribbing from his neighbors before Jets-Giants games. That's because Waldemore lives in East Hanover, N.J., an area he admits is "Giants Country". BATTLE OF NEW YORK "When I first moved in three years ago," recalled Waldemore, "and people heard I played for the Jets, they'd come up and ask me if I could get them Giants tickets." Waldemore smiles at the memory... and understands it. With a chesire smile he'll tell people publically that he was always a Jets' fan while growing up in New Jersey (he starred at Essex Catholic). "I even loved 'em when they were the Titans," Waldemore chuckles. But privately he'll admit it was hard not to be a Giants fan. Waldemore will also admit that the more football- knowledgable of his neighbors aren't needling him before this Sunday's clash with the Giants at the Meadowlands. "In the past Jets-Giants games were usually pre-season things," explained the seventh-year vet out of Nebraska. "The big thing in the game was bragging rights. This time, though, there's more at stake and my neighbors probably realize it." Beyond any imagined •y New York rivalry — which > j some players have said is ' J wholly a media creation — both the Giants and Jets desperately need a win Sunday. The Giants need to

Had to dig deep today to find something to add to Stan Waldemore. Today was a tough one. Best I could come up with is Eric Mangini's return to coaching:
On 2/20/2014, former Jets (and Browns) head coach Eric Mangini returned to coaching when he accepted a position as Tight Ends coach with the SF 49ers. Mangini would be promoted to defensive coordinator for the 2015 season, but he would be fired at the end of the 15 season when HC Jim Tomsula was fired along with most of his coaching staff.
Mangini coached the Jets from 2006-08. After making the playoffs in his rookie season, the Jets disappointed in 07 & 08.
