What am I missing about this kid? Really nice arm, very smooth dropback. Can the Jets take best non-QB available at #6 and take a gamble on him? Would seem to make sense that the tope 2 prospects aren't slam-dunks anyway.

According to Mayock if his first read is open he is $$$. If he has to go through his progressions he gets in trouble. Sounds like he will fit in perfectly here.

I watched him throwing earlier, very impressed with his ball, delivery, and motion. I'd draft him no sweat.

Also people don't seem to notice that during the draft he hears the players name before it's announced on tv. Then everyone thinks he's a genius for getting the pick right 10 seconds earlier. Regarding Petty. He's a decent choice if we don't take Winston at #6, but I'm not taking him before the 3rd round. Even then I think there will be prospects I like a lot more than him in the 3rd.

I watched all the Qbs throw - and Petty's 'naturalness' was second only to Winston. I get the knock on him being a 1-read QB - but with a built-in feel for throwing and his position I'd say he makes a coachable QB prospect. Certainly doesn't look to be three rounds worse than Marriota.

I just don't really care for any of the QB's after Mariota and Winston.
This QB class is total dogshit once those two go off the board.
I don't want to take a QB just for the sake of taking one, especially within the first two rounds.
Would rather spend the pick on another position and roll with Geno and a vet like Matt Moore or Ryan Fitzpatrick for another year.

See if Geno can play for the new coaches (really, no QB has ever done well on a Rex Ryan coached team). Then, if need be, the Jets can trade up to get a QB next year when the class is deeper. If Rakeem Cato is not drafted, I'd sign him as a free agent to give him a shot.

If we want to take a late round flier on a Brandon Bridge or Sean Mannion to give Simms some competition for the 3rd spot on the roster, then I'm fine with that. But unless we walk away with Mariota or Winston in the 1st, then I'm not even thinking about drafting a QB before the 5th round. Just sign a competent veteran to compete with Geno. What other choice is there? I'm sure as shit not giving up a 1st or 2nd round pick for Cutler and taking on his bloated contract.

I don't think Petty helped himself in the Senior Bowl, he looked like a kid that has never really played under center. Sure he can improve, but anything higher than a 4th would be reaching a bit IMO.

Certainly doesn't look to be three rounds worse than Marriota. It's actually pretty comical to watch. Mayock will be talking up a couple of guys that he thinks a team will go after. The past few years, Jason La Canfora has been the first one to tweet every pick long before anyone else does. So so as I watch the tv, I know long before Mayock who the pick is going to be. Then I like to watch the moment when he is told through the earpiece who it is. It's very obvious. Then all of the sudden, he acts like he magically divined another choice just a short time before the pick is in and says something like "another guy they could go after is..." . And low and behold, he looks so darn amazing. He's a smart guy but it comes across so ridiculously phony.

The most recent Walter Football mock has the Jets with
Amari Cooper Byron Jones Duke Johnson Bryce Petty
So, I guess Petty is a possibility. I would much prefer to see an OLB or OL with the 4th round pick, and have the Jets wait until the 6th round to take a flyer on a guy like Brandon Bridge, or just sign the best non drafted QB to a free agent contract.
Also, as an aside Cooper, Jones, and Johnson with the first 3 picks would be one of the better drafts the Jets have ever had in the category of talent meeting needs. If the Jets get Cro back, the Jets would likely have the 2 most freakishly athletic CBs in the entire NFL in the same defensive backfield.

If we keep Harvin, the Seahawks take our fourth round pick; if we cut him, we give up our sixth round pick. Alas, your scenario won't happen.
