Where does everyone sit on our TE situation and how best (if at all) to address it? Me personally, I feel like the group behind Jace is incredibly stagnant. Cumberland, Sudfeld - these guys are the same shit year in and out. beyond that--
-Jace showed some promise, but wasn't a revelation by any means. -The draft crop this year leaves a lot to be desired. -There's some great FAs, but there's also a lot of teams with a need at TE. Don't think it's FA area for us.
DRAFT:
I know on paper, a guy like Nick Boyle makes sense; an old school mauler who can block and catch those tough 5 yarders... but I'm more interested in getting some depth behind Jace in a playmaking TE.
Wes Saxton MyCole Pruitt
Those have been my favorite to mid round prospects (Pruitt worked himself into 4-6 range in Indy). I can't think of two better prospects with upside. Not sure how much Chan's system will work out for these guys, but there's some possibilities there for a lot of production.
ARE YOU comfortable with us spending a mid to late pick on a TE?

IMO a traditional in-line TE needs to be brought in via free agency. I think if Gailey is going to show some spread looks that using Amaro in his old college role would be the best thing for him. I thought they used Amaro in-line too much and didn't really try to play to his strengths. Flexing him out some and letting him work down the seam more would be wise. They also need to design some redzone stuff for him, if I see Kerley running along the back of the endzone as their primary RZ target I may harm myself this year.

Julius Thomas and call it a day? Sudfeld is horrible. He plays like he's 5'10 and has no other discernible advantages. At least cumby occasionally makes a play.

Having competent, consistent OL play goes a long way in making an average TE more productive. JMO.

I'd be fine with using a later pick on someone like Clive Walford from the U. He has good size and his hands look good....I'm just not sure how high he goes. In the fifth I'd absolutely pull the trigger.....in the fourth it depends who else is available.
And please cut Cumberland, he is a total waste of a roster spot and has been for years.

One of the better inline blocking TE's in the league and is also a solid redzone target. Would come dirt cheap as well. Would still love to add O'Leary in the late rounds also. I know he's not the greatest athlete but he has a pair of sure hands and is super reliable.

I'd bring in a veteran a la Gresham or Owen Daniels and draft Jesse James out of Penn State. Need to get a vet presence to solidify the position and light a fire under Jace. James doesn't have great hands, but he's a plus blocker with a good motor . Best of all, he could be had with a 6 or 7.
