So I have been feeling a bit emo due to my financial situation which is completely my own doing yada yada, and that I feel I can not afford to donate to the board financially at this time. Then Leonard Nimoy kicks the bucket. (light bulb) About 4 years ago I took my mother to the Antique Road Show as they were doing there thing in Portland, she wanted to appraise some family heirlooms and I thought it would be fun if I took something to have appraised also. With very little thought I took in a comic book I had found while dumpster diving in one of my dumpsters about 10 years back. The appraiser said my Gold Key Star Trek #2 was worth in an excess of a $100, and that it's max value would be soon after Shatner or Nimoy died. Star Trek #2 I also have Star Trek #12 I looked on EBay and the only ones I saw were selling for around $30. Anyway I thought maybe I could sell these and use the proceeds to donate to the board. But I have never sold any thing on Ebay and would need help, maybe EBay is not the answer? Maybe someone on this board would be interested in making a cash offer? Maybe I could mail these to some one on the board and they could sell them and forward the money to Ragu? Any Suggestions?

Just send the comics to Ragu. I'm told he will barter (learned it in the can).

Are any pages stuck together? That will reduce the value.

First off, I would think Ragu would tell you that it's ok you can't send anything at the moment, and I would seriously doubt any of us would want you to send money to a message board if it meant your having to literally hock something to do so.
As for eBay, fees are the killer there. That said, for smaller amounts the fees really don't figure into this too much, but you'd want to ensure that you more than have the shipping costs covered as you will need to take special precautions in shipping a collectible. The comic market sucks for the past 20+ years as the industry as done reboot after reboot of titles, thereby destroying the canon of "original" issues.

Granted they take up little storage space, but I have never had plans to display them. I don't know how to grade comics, but would say there condition on a scale of 1 to 10 is solid 4 to a possible six? I plan to figure out the Ebay thing and place them for sale there, if they do sell, I will forward any profit to this site. Wish me luck in my sale.

You should be able to get far more than $30.

What about one of those old fashioned two-sided message boards? You could walk around Manhattan's financial district advertising the sale of the comics. Maybe even dress up as Carson from "Downton Abbey" to attract attention.

Depending on the condition of the comics, according to the comic book price guide, they are worth between #3 (poor) and $1500 (Gem Mint) Determining condition comicspriceguide.com/comic-book-grading

If you want to get the max that you can then invest in sending them off to the CGC to get professionally graded and slabbed.
CGC graded comics are worth an average of 3x as much as "raw" comics.
I have a near mint Incredible Hulk #181 (first appearance of Wolverine) that I got as a kid back in the 70's.
Always kept it in great shape and got it slabbed and graded by the CGC about 12 years ago.
They gave it an estimated value of $3500 back then and it's worth even more now. If I just had it bagged and boarded, it might be worth around $800.

Was thinking about doing this for my Uncanny X-Men #141-142 (Days of Future Past) signed by Claremont, but I can't justify the cost vs return. I'd be looking at something in the neighborhood of a $90 fee, and optimistically a $400 ROI. No way that's happening in this depressed market. At least not until the grubby losers still living in the parent's basement start to die off from Cheetos and Hot Pockets induced diabetes/heart disease.

It's hard as hell to get fair value in return for valuable comics without going to an auction. And even then you have to pay a 15-20% auction fee. Honestly, I don't even have any intent to sell my comics. My collection is pretty solid (maybe worth 10-12k total) but that's mostly due to the sheer volume. I don't have a shitload of REALLY valuable books. Just my Incredible Hulk's #180-182, Giant Size X-Men #1, and Amazing Spider-Man #129 (first appearance of the Punisher). Nothing else in my collection is worth more than maybe $60. So no need to even bother with getting them graded. I'll probably just leave them to the kid one day, but make damn sure that he knows what he has and doesn't just sell them for 1 dollar a pop at some yard sale in the future. If I were you, I'd wait until you have a spare $90 to throw around, get them graded and hold on to them for another 10 years. Days of Future Past is one of the more adored X-Men storylines in history. They'll fetch a pretty penny in the future. No question. Especially as shit keeps going digital. Old bastards like me want the physical copy.
