Looks like Mayock's an idiot. agreed...Winston has showed that he is more of a pro ready QB than Mariotta is, he also has shown a good intelligence for the game and is considered a leader. Yeah the bad press and his checkered past are there but his talent overshadows that. If Tampa passes on him they are stupid.

If we draft Mariota and he busts while Ray goes on to be a 10 sack a year passrusher, then I can live with it. At least we had the balls to swing for the fences and take a shot on a young, promising QB at the top of the draft instead of dicking around with Geno and a mediocre journeyman like Fitz. However, if we pass on Mariota and he goes on to become a legitimate fanchise QB...then I won't even care if Ray is putting up 10-12 sacks a year with us. I'll be pissed that we finally had the chance to draft our guy for the next decade and in typical Jets fashion, we managed to fuck it up. All because Mariota wasn't some flawless "once in a generation" prospect, therefore we didn't have the balls to pull the trigger. This is exactly how I feel. It would be so Jet-like to pass on a potential franchise quarterback at number six and then watch him go on to be a top 10 guy for a decade on some other team. Talk about a Dan Marino flashback! could be a todd blackledge flashback. i think i'd take kenny obrien if he were available. heck i might even go for take a sack tony eason.

Here is the thing, I totally disagree with Cimini. I think Mariota will be taken by the Jets should he fall to pick #6. That being said the boom or bust risk to draft this kid is well worth taking. If we trade assets to move up to draft Mariota that is a different story altogether. imo it's all still a smokescreen. no telling what any team will do. heck tampa has had the frist pick since day one and they still haven't announced.

Ya know, the closer we get to the draft, the more I want Mariota a Jet. I was opposed to trading up to get him, but I'm starting to say fuck it... if Big Mac likes him at 6, why the hell not trade up?? Play Geno. Fitz iis the backup, and put Mariota in a baseball cap for 10 games to a year. Next year we start him. If Geno plays well and we're in the playoff hunt, that's only great news for the Jets. I don't know what it'll cost, but if it's reasonable, I'd do it.

Marcus Mariota did indeed visit the Jets on April 2 (a few days after a private workout in Oregon), as @albertbreer noted. Stealth mode #nyj

The Jets quietly brought Oregon QB Marcus Mariota to Florham Park for a visit on 4/2, five days after working him out privately in Eugene.

That makes the Jets one of three teams, joining the Bucs and Titans, to both work Mariota out on campus and bring him in to their facility.
