If the Jets aren't comfortable with Mariota or if he fails to fall to #6...then I'm all about Amari Cooper.
There's going to be a run on DL in the Top 5 with Jacksonville, Washington and Tennessee in front of us.
I think Jacksonville and Washington are essentially guaranteed to go with a DL/OLB and I think Leonard Williams is without question going #2 to Tennessee if they pass on Mariota.
You take Cooper at #6, put him in the slot for his first 2-3 years, and let him feast on LB's and safeties while Marshall and Decker hold down the outside.
With the way our defense is currently constructed, I don't see the need for a passrusher at #6. Would I complain if we took a Beasley or Ray (Fowler isn't making it to us)? Of course not. But I'd rather get a potentially elite WR like Cooper in the 1st then grab a passrusher like Harold or Mauldin in Round 2.

Thought the same thing about Cooper in the slot. Then move him into Marshal's spot when he's done. A Marshall-Decker-Cooper trio could be one of the sickest in the league. Cooper in the slot would take a lot of pressure off of an aging Marshall and help a young Amaro. And it's a big benefit to Decker...who lead the league in 2013 in deep passes caught. Partly due of course to Peyton. But also due to the secondary having to deal with the two Thomases and Welker, leaving Decker in single coverage. With Marshall-Cooper-Amaro...once again Decker will have a single CB to exploit.
When it comes to the OLB edge rush position. I just don't know if it's as important in Bowles defensive philosophy, as it is in other 3-4 Ds. Last year only two LBs played in more then 50% of the snaps in the Cardinals defense. Bowles employs a lot of 6-7 DB base D. Deemphasizing the LB roles in his defense. So he may not use the #6 pick for an edge rusher. And pick one up in 2nd-4th rounds.
So if the Jets don't trade out of the 6th pick...I could see the Jets possibly taking Amari Cooper and not an edge rusher for the above reasons given.
IMO...Jets won't draft Mariota as I've posted here in the Draft and Runway messageboards. Like Geno...too much of a project QB for a #6 pick. They would auction him off if possible.

I have no problem taking Cooper at number six, but my preference now is to trade back if we can.
I would really like to double dip on offense in the first round, getting two players in the second half of the round somehow and going with offensive line and one of the top two running backs. That would be an instant jumpstart for our offense. Adding a young tackle/guard and a speedy running back to a team that just acquired Brandon Marshall would be great IMO.

I'd love Cooper at 6. But not if Mariota is there too.

since i dont like Mariota i will agree with the premise of this thread. i think Cooper is a more well-rounded prospect than the two pass rushers that could be in the mix - Beasley and Fowler. all three are good to great prospects but Cooper seems like more of a sure thing, and has always been at the top. i'd be happy with any of the three though.

By Cooper, do you mean Parker? ...truth is, he's the better WR. He's doesn't come with the same shine and polish, but would you rather have Dez in his prime, or Wayne? I'll take Dez every day of the week.
I'd be happy with Parker, or Ray.
OK with Cooper or Fowler
Grumbling with Mariota or Beasley
Flat out bucking with Gregory

If BMarsh or Decker goes down, we're back to our shaky WR corps. We need a dynamic youthful franchise WR for once.

Think Bernardrick McKinney is a target in Round 2 if we go WR in Round 1. Can play inside or outside. Would be in the mix with Harold or Mauldin.
