I'm going to use the drafttek mock draft and limit my selections to the players available at the Jets' respective picks:

1) Round 1: Vic Beasley (OLB) (Clemson): I know that the mock has Mariota available at the Jets pick, but I'm going to pass on him because I don't see anyway that he is going to be available at 6 and, frankly, I'm bored of discussing Mariota at this point. If he is available at 6, I think the Jets are taking him.
Beasley is the selection for a variety of reasons. a) He had consistently good production throughout his college career in a major conference; b) he weighed in at 246 at the combine which I believe is just enough weight to allow him to play weakside OLB in a 3-4; c) his combine performance was magnificent and it translates on tape; e) Beasley actually has some experience dropping into coverage and f) edge rusher is one of the premium positions in football and the Jets need a serious upgrade in young talent at the position with both Pace and Babin in their mid 30's.
Some people are going to complain about Beasley having trouble setting the edge against the run. These are the same people that read Playboy for the articles. If you are picking an edge rusher in the top 10, it is primarily because of his pass rush ability and nobody is a better pass rusher than Beasley in this draft.

Round 2: Trade!
Jets trade down with the 49ers
Jets get:
49ers 2nd round pick (46) (440)
49ers 4th round pick (110) (74)
49ers 6th round pick (174) (21.8)
49ers get:
Jets 2nd round pick (37)(530)
rational: At the press conference yesterday, Maccagnan spoke about philosophically preferring to pickup extra picks. Jets tradeback to try to recoup the mid round picks they lost in trades.
Jets 2nd round pick: Devin Smith (WR) (Ohio State) - This was such a tough pick to make. I strongly considered DJ Humphries, but I liked some of the tackles that I expected to be available later on and the receivers available were too tempting. I strongly considered DGB, but I am tired of the Jets getting burned with their second round picks, so I wanted more of a sure thing. My choice came down to Phillip Dorsett and Devin Smith. Both offer deep threat ability, but Smith is bigger and I can eventually see him playing on the outside (I'm not sure I see the same for Dorsett).

Jets 3rd round pick: Cedric Ogbuehi (OT) (Texas A&M) - Ogbuehi was being talked about as a top ten pick before 2014 started and had a rough season. Still, the athletic gifts are there and, with proper coachign, he can be developed into a good starting left tackle down the road.
