Over the years, the Jets have had very few transactions on May 20. They have signed 4 players on this date, 1 draftee and three free agents. The only player signed on this date to play in the NFL was an 11th round draft pick, Mike Harmon, a WR out of Mississippi. When the Jets drafted Harmon, they intended to convert him to a RB due to a lack of speed. After learning the new position during training camp, he found himself back at WR after injuries to Lam Jones and Kurt Sohn. He had a big game in his first opportunity in the preseason, catching 4 passes including a TD.
On opening day of the 1983 season, Harmon would get his opportunity. He played sparingly, but did catch one pass from Richard Todd for 4 yards in the Jets opening day 41-29 victory against San Diego. It is the only reception of his NFL career. He did see action on special teams throughout that season, returning 12 punts for 109 yards. 1983 was his only NFL season.
