Whoa Why go through with the vote and resign 3 days later? Not to mention Blatter holding onto power with a grip that would put him as an all-time star in one of those world's strongest man competitions. It makes zero sense unless you look at it from the perspective of him facing some pretty extreme pressure behind the scenes - and I would say that pressure would not be coming from within his own organisation given he's basically brushed that off like lint on his jacket for several decades. So that leaves some external source/s of pressure that we can likely guess at - not that this will be in any official account of his exit.

I do agree with Blatter that the U.S. has had a hard on for FIFA since they lost the bid to Qatar.

The satirical article, published Wednesday under the headline, “FIFA Frantically Announces 2015 Summer World Cup in the United States,” mockingly suggested that, to placate American officials, the governing body had added a new tournament, w hich would begin the very same day.LOL did he even read past the headline and/or does he understand English?

Hmmmm. FBI must have went full J Edgar Hoover on Sepp.
Gave him the option to retire or they leaked the photos of him sucking off farm animals.

I think the FBI thing was the clincher, because I suspect (I could be wrong) what did Blatter in were the sponsors - I think that with the USA police (FBI whatever) thing involvement it just made the corruption "official" to a global audience, it made the FIFA name mud while Blatt is at the helm.....and if the sponsors turn the $ tap off FIFA are screwed. Money talks, bullshit walks = Blatt gets the splatt. Of course there could have been law enforcement people behind the scenes who love the game who just told Blatt to go in recent days as he is screwed from future litigation/charges, which is likely, but it would have been the big money threatening to leave that would have poisoned FIFA and hence Blatter. All those votes Blatt stroked from places like Vanuatu and Sri Lanka (or wherever) mean fuck all vs the tidal wave of mega-millions from the sponsors.
Whatever, at the end of the day it was the US investigation that has sparked all this so kudos to the Americans, the USA basically gets spanked globally for being the cop but if football fans around the globe remove those myopic spectacles they will see what a massive favour the USA has done here and give that action the respect it deserves.
Now I can watch some Copa America games happy better times are ahead for the game (ie no more World Cups in Dubai or wherever it is).

Most talking heads here are fellating themselves over the possibility of Michel Platini (Head of UEFA) being a possibile candidate for the FIFA spot. Platini still benefits from the aura of the great player he was, and everyone forgets the political beast he’s become. He always says he defends the sport he loves yet he voted for the WC in Qatar, in order to get the votes necessary for the next WC in Europe (Russia). You don’t vote for a WC in Qatar if you love the game.
Plus, if he's ever president of FIFA, there’ll never be replays. Ever. He’s adamantly against any video replays.
Fuck him.
