July 29 has been a slow news day for the Jets over the years. 7/29/78: The Jets release RB Louie Giammona. Giammona was an 8th round pick out of Utah State in 1976. He was part of the RB by committee that Lou Holtz had hoped would replace future HOFer John Riggins who left for the Redskins in before the 76 season. Giammona, who Lou Holtz compare to 2 time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, "when you list height, weight, speed, statistics and the intangibles without a name, there is no difference between Louie and Archie Griffin.". Louis's Jet career consisted of 39 carries, 150 yards, 1TD and 5 fumbles in the 1976 season. He would sign with the Eagles and play for about 5 years in Philly as a back-up RB.

Other newsworthy items from July 29, 2011 Jets signed rookie 4th round pick, Bilal Powell. Also, 7/29/11 is the date that the Jets lost out to Philly in the Nnamdi sweepstakes. A reminder that sometimes the best moves you make are the ones that you don't make.

I remember Louie...I didn't realize Holtz compared him with Griffin lol, at least he wrote good pep songs
