July 31, 1987Jets QB Ken O'Brien ends his 7 day holdout. O'Brien, who was looking for a multi-year extension worth $1 million per year, would end his extension when he agreed to a one-year contract, with a 2nd year option. The contract was for a base salary of $850K per year, but with incentives and roster bonuses, it had the potential to pay O'Brien $2.075 million over the two year period. Unfortunately for O'Brien and the Jets, he had already played his best football for them. During his first three seasons after riding the bench in 1983, O'Brien would lead the league in QB rating once (96.5 in 1985) and complete 61% of his passes, averaging 7.7 yards per attempt and lead the Jets to two playoff appearances. During the rest of his career he would have only 1 season with a QB rating above 80, complete 57% of his passes, average 6.7 yds per attempt and only make one more playoff appearance. He never won a playoff game in his NFL career. 28 years ago today, we got a deal done with O'Brien -- how about we find a way to get something done now with another one of our star player. Just sign Mo!!!

Just sign Mo!!! Ken O’Brien is the only QB in NFL history to throw for 400 yards while compiling a perfect rating. And he had a winning record vs. Marino. 8-7.
