This was the day that started it all. The path that led to Joe Namath, Weeb Ewbank and an unlikely Super Bowl Championship began on this day.
All of the highs and lows and near misses of the last 45 years can trace their roots back to this day. The path that continued through the 70s - an entire decade without a winning record. The decade of Lou Holtz and Charlie Winner could trace its origin to this date.
The rebirth of the early 80s, the Sack Exchange, Freeman McNeil, Wesley Walker and Co. The Mud Bowl and a few years later, Gastineau Roughed the Passer and another opportunity was lost.
The Kotite Years followed by Parcells, Vinny and another near miss. Followed by Herm and Mangini and some solid but unspectacular football. The highs and the lows of the Rex Ryan era and now the Bowles /Macc team.
