August 16, 1968August 16 was another slow day in Jets history. For this one, I had to go back to 1968, weeks before the Super Bowl season would begint. In a trade with the Houston Oilers, the Jets would acquire 3 time AFL All Pro & 6 time Pro Bowl Guard Bob Talamini. Talamini is one of those names that seems to have been forgotten by history, but he was a great player in the 1960s and a member of the AFL Hall of Fame. Talamini was part of a great Jerts offensive line in 1968 that featured John Schmitt, Winston Hill, Dave Herman and Randy Rasmussen. Talamini would retire after the Super Bowl at 30 years of age in order to spend more time with his family. In the trade to acquire Talamini, the Jets would send the Houston Oilers a 3rd round pick, which the Oilers would use to select Rich Johnson, a RB out of Illinois who carried 11 times for 42 yars in his NFL career.
