August 20, 1999
For those who have said that these threads bring up too many painful memories, may as well move on to another thread. I have two words for today: Rick Mirer On August 20, 1999, the Jets acquired QB Rick Mirer in a trade with the Green Bay Packers. The Jets would surrender a 6th round pick in the deal. The Packers in turn would flip the 6th rounder (Tim Watson) to Seattle along with DB Fred Vinson in order to acquire RB Ahman Green and a 5th rounder (Joey Jamison). So, as a result of the deal, the Jets got Mirer; Seattle got Tim Watson and Fred Vinson, neither of whom ever played a game for the Seahawks. Mirer, who started 6 games for the team after Vinny's injury in 99, would win 2 of the 6 while throwing 9 picks, 5 TDs and only completing 54% of his passes. The Jets would have been better off had Mirer never played a game for them. The Packers got Ahman Green, who would account for over 11,000 rushing/receiving yards and 68 TDs over the next 8 years seasons. Pretty obvious who got the best of that deal.

I dunno. Our year was 1998. We choked in Denver. Windows are small in this league, you have to get over the hump on your first opportunity b.c you never know if it will come again.

I think Gary Anderson missed his first FG of the year in that game. And we cry about Doug Brien.

Just like 2011 against Pitt. When you get to the AFCC game, you HAVE TO WIN IT! We suck in AFCC games. 1-5 is a pathetic record. Only difference between Jets and Giants are they are 5-0 in NFCC games. F'IN JETS!!!!!

I think Gary Anderson missed his first FG of the year in that game. And we cry about Doug Brien. I think we sometimes have a tendency to forget that the 98 Falcons team was a pretty good team. We crushed them in the regular season when they were without their starting QB, Chris Chandler. The team we smoked 28-3 had Steve DeBerg and Tony Graziani playing QB. DeBerg, who started was 44 years old and had not played in the NFL for 5 years. Falcons won 11 straight after we beat them (including playoffs) and were 16-2 heading into the SB (15-1 with a healthy Chandler). They were 4th in the league in points scored and 4th in fewest points allowed. I think we were the better team and would have won had we gotten to the SB, but those Falcons were better than most give them credit for.

I think we were the better team and would have won had we gotten to the SB, but those Falcons were better than most give them credit for. The were good, but they had a cupcake schedule. The 2014 Jets would have gone 10-6 against those teams. They beat the 4-12 Panthers twice, 4-12 Rams twice, 4-12 Bears, 3-13 Colts, 6-10 Saints, 5-11 Lions, and 3-13 Eagles. That's basically 9 free wins. The toughest team they play was the 11-5 49ers who they split with.

Winning 16 games and 11 straight is tough in this league regardless of schedule. I think we would have beaten them for a second time that year, but they were a much better team than the one we had beaten earlier in the season and I still think they were a better team than they are often given credit for.
