August 31, 1997
Finally, a chance to talk about some regular season football. The Jets would open the 1997 season with a trip to the Seattle Kingdome on August 31. This is the only regular season game the Jets have ever played in August. It was also the first game of the Bill Parcells era. The Jets were quick to show fans that the Dark Age of Kotite was over. Coming off of a 1-15 record in the 1996 season, the Jets jumped all over the favored Seahawks, embarrassing them 41-3 in front of their home crowd. Neil O’Donnell would complete 18 of 25 for 270 yards and 5 TDs, including 2 each to Wayne Chrebet and Jeff Graham. RB Adrien Murrell gained over 130 yards in the win. On the defensive side of the ball, the Jets got an interception from Ray Mickens, a sack by Marvin Jones and a fumble recovery by Marcus Coleman (forced by Mo Lewis). They knocked Seattle starter John Friesz from the game with a broken thumb in the 2nd quarter and held future Hall of Famer, Warren Moon to 7 of 21 for 89 yards after he came on in relief of the injured Friesz. For the Jets, it would be an 8 game turnaround from the prior season as they would finish 9-7, but miss out on the playoffs when they dropped the season finale to Detroit 13-10.

And, for today's John Idzik Bonehead move, Mike Goodson was officially placed on the Reserve/Suspension list on 8/31/13.
Also, on this date last year, Quincy Enunwa was arrested on charges of domestic violence and assault. The charges were eventually dismissed in October. Now, a year later, it is looking as if he has a great shot at sticking on the 53 man roster after final cuts are made this weekend. Might Idzik have actually made a good pick with that 6th rounder last year. 12 draft picks and a 6th and 7th rounder (Trevor Reilly) might be the two best picks.

Really brought a sense of radical change and positivity after such a miserable 2 years under dick kotite. Although, we should have made the playoffs that year. Parcells should have never had the RB throw a pass into the end zone that got picked off against the Lions.

Parcells should have never had the RB throw a pass into the end zone that got picked off against the Lions. As disappointing as it was to miss the playoffs, at least they finished that season with a feeling like they were heading in the right direction. A lot more went wrong late in that one than just the RB pass -- 2 other 2nd half interceptions and I think Barry Sanders went for about 150 yards in the 4th quarter alone. Took an all-time great playing his best to beat us -- I guess there is no shame in that.

Awesome Thanks,. Too bad today's this day memory involves O'Donnell and Kotite. at least it showed that odonnell had some capability. for whatever reason, parcells didn't like him.
