I'm all for killing terrorist and those that harbor them, but I miss the times when we could look at ourselves in the mirror and know we were the good guys. There is something unamerican about sending a drone into a non war zone to kill a target and taking out the 25 or so people who also happen to be near the "target". Bottom line is that we are better than this. The drone program is a valuable tool, but it has been over-utilized to our detriment. For every terror leader killed, we create 10 more potential replacements.

I thought torture didnt work? Cant have it both ways. In a perfect world we would catch these savages and light them on fire in a cage like they do to us. At least that is what I would want to do.
The problem isnt the drones. The problem is we fought these wars form the very beginning with one arm tied behind our backs. And now Obama announced that our remaining troops aren't leaving Afghanistan as soon as expected. So now we have wars that we probably shouldnt have fought from the beginning, but since we did we should have stayed but since we didnt stay everything we fought for was lost and since we lost those gains we are now leaving people there longer. Botched at every single fvcking turn.

Botched at every single fvcking turn. I totally agree about "torture" and fighting with an arms tied behind our backs. However, the Drone program is not the answer to those problems and Obama is a tyrannical hypocrite for being against "torturing"known terrorists to obtain useful intelligence, but being totally FOR sending a drone into non war zones -- Yemen and Pakistan -- to kill a terrorist while taking out 20 or 30 so other people who happen to be in the area. So, it is better to kill innocent people while "assassinating" a known terrorist than to capture the scumbag and use sleep deprivation and waterboarding to obtain information about their operations. The plan is sheer lunacy and I can not figure out how a guy who claims to be as intelligent as Obama could buy into it.

Yemen and Pakistan are war zones. The definition of war has changed. There are many people in those countries conspiring against us and planning attacks. We are fighting an ideology that does not have borders. The war is everywhere.
Obama likes the drones bc it allows him to live up to his campaign promise of ending the wars while still going after those who are threats. All the average American knows is that the wars are over b.c the troops have left. The truth is they are far from over and will likely never be over. We are in much worse shape now than we were at the height of the surge in 2007. We have retreated and our enemies are gaining ground.
Frankly I supported the drone program. But I supported it as a supplement to what we were doing on the ground. It seems now it has become our primary offensive strategy alongside the air strikes. We cant fight like that. Hit and run. We need to hit, secure, stabilize and maintain.

We need to hit, secure, stabilize and maintain. It is this type of incrementalism on the use of Drones that frightens me. First, just Afghanistan and Iraq, actual countries where we were at war. Then Yemen and Pakistan, simply because that is where the terrorist are. What next? Into North Africa and then maybe Europe. Basically, any country we can give the middle figure to if they've got a problem with it. Can here in the U.S. be far behind? Once again, I am not 100% against the use of a drone to take out a terrorist. I just think the bar for the justified use of a drone has been lowered to a very, very dangerous level.
