LMAO if you think there is the slightest bit of difficulty in getting an illegal gun. Wow. You can just stop now bro. That's like saying you can't buy the pot or moonshine anywhere because it's illegal. They really got you brainwashed. You think you're so smart too. That's how it always goes. Crazy. But when some thug shoves a gun against your face, make sure you ask him how in the world did he FIND that illegal thing!! :coocoo: Its hard to get a gun here (Australia) is what I'm saying. Its not hard in the USA. Oooh... yeah ok nevermind then, didn't know you were Ozzy. Yeah, but there are dumbass liberal extremists here who think exactly what I said. A real delusional bunch!

Yeah they had a ton of chances, in all of those situations they are worried about "collateral damage" however - but I'm no expert so couldn't really comment on what the police were thinking. Likely also they thought they could end the situation peacefully.

Look fellas, its clear you have set views on this, I respect that, but let me make a few points. This fella was rejected by his own community - the Muslims wanted to have nothing to do with him. Likely this had something to do with what happened - frankly I think thats the one issue the Islamic community here has to look at - could they have been more accepting of this guy despite his clear issues and so averted this situation. H e basically was a fruit-loop. Anyone who thinks they can get their point across by writing abusive letters to the families of dead soldiers clearly is not right upstairs. The 9/11 attacks were an attack on America and Americans - but there are many American muslims who do not hold extremist views, and some of them were killed in that terrible tragedy. Some of the people currently fighting ISIS in Iraq are muslims, for example a lot of the Kurds are - clearly they are anti-extremist and prepared to put their own lives on the line to fight extremism. That doesn't really fit the narrative that a great deal of Muslims are extremist - clearly some are but a great deal are not. Christian religions out here is the Catholic Church and recently they've been exposed as sheltering quite a number of pedophiles within their priesthood, so all religions have some pretty significant issues. The upshot is me and most of my fellow Aussies think Muslims should be able to practice their faith without being hassled by bigots on public transport or wherever. I was brought up a Catholic and a lot of my friends are Catholic, and it would shit me no end if they got hassled for being Catholics, and frankly I feel the same about any other religion people want to practice, provided they aren't hurting anyone else while doing it. No shit he was crazy, all those Islamic Extremists are crazy. Do you really think that people who want to chop off heads and blow up women and children are sane people? They want to kill you in the name of religion, their interpretation of Islam is what is making them crazy. For you to dismiss this as just some "crazy" guy and ignore the Islam connection is just dangerous. I hope the vast number of Australians don't hold your views on this because that could be a very problematic issue for your country.

They were too concerned with one-upping the US, and thinking they are gonna come out of it with zero casualties and zero force. That's what it is indeed. And it backfired. Shame.

You have to be realistic and call these people what they are and put them to sleep like the rabid animals they are. I am sure you guys had a dozen or so sharp shooters that could have taken that guy out blindfolded. RIP to the victims and the hero that tried to take him out.

Mate, when all of them start doing that I'll get worried, at this stage its just the lunatic fringe, which is why they are named that way. Most of the Musos out here are solid citizens. Our policing agencies do watch the lunatic fringe muslims pretty heavily; especially they look at young muslim men who don't know better and want to go fight in the middle east. Not surprising then this middle aged freak slipped through the cracks like this, because if it was a younger muslim man the police would have been right on top of it and the situation would never have happened.

Not sure how you miss this guy, it's not like guy wasn't protesting on the streets in his Muslim garb holding up signs with names of dead Australian soldiers calling them infidels, it's not like this guy wasnt out on bail for conspiring to kill his wife, it's not like this guy hasn't been charged with numerous rapes. L O L.....somehow he "just slipped through the cracks".

I think they just thought of him as some harmless nutjob - they really will be investigating how he got that gun, because that is what made him dangerous. He walks into that cafe with a knife threatening people and someone snots him for sure.
