The Jets extended the contract of General Manager Terry Bradway for two years, an extension that would keep him through at least the end of 2007.
Bradway and the Jets had a rough 2003 season. The team lost 4 free agents who all joined the Washington Redskins: WR Laveranues Coles, OL Randy Thomas, WR Chad Morton and K John Hall. Bradway and the Jets traded up in the 2003 draft for Dewayne Robertson. After an injury to Chad Pennington in the preseason, the Jets limped to a 6-10 record.
Coach Herman Edwards was given a contract extension at the end of the 2003 season, but the Jets adopted a wait and see approach for Bradway. The 2004 season got off to a much better start. The Jets added Jonathan Vilma, Jerricho Cotchery and Erik Coleman in the draft, resigned Brandon Moore as a restricted free agent and added free agents Eric Barton and David Barrett.
After the Jets defeated the Browns on 11/21, to get to 7-3, they decided to reward Bradway with a contract extension on November 25.
"So much was made of the situation of the players we lost, that became a focal point for everybody," Bradway said. "That was something that was blown out of proportion. Maybe it's unusual that four guys from one team go to another team, but that wasn't the reason we were 6-10. It was a tough year. Last year was a wake-up call for everybody."
"The true character of your organization is when you go through those trying times what do you do and how do you handle it," Edwards said. "I thought he handled it with class, the organization handled it with class. We didn't panic. We stuck to our plan and understood this is part of the process. You're going to go through it. You keep continuing to build."
Bradway, the man who traded up for Robertson, would be replaced in 2006 by Mike Tannenbaum after a 2005 off season that included drafting Mike Nugent in the 2nd round, and trading a 1st for Doug Jolley. He would remain with the team in various scouting roles through the beginning of the end of the 2014 season. He was finally let go by Mike Maccagnan in January of this year.
