Titans starting guard Bob Mischak become the first member of the Jets/Titans franchise to be named All Pro. Mischak played 3 seasons for the Titans, 1960 - 62. Mischak, who was a two way player in college at Army was originally a 23rd round draft pick of the Browns in the NFL. He never played for the Browns, who traded him to the GIants -- where he played 1 year, 1958. He signed with the Titans as a free agent in May, 1960.
He was All-AFL with the Titans in 1960 & 61 and 2nd team All AFL in 1962. He played 3 seasons with the Raiders after he left the Titans and finished his football career as an assistant coach with Army and the Raiders.
12/1/1963
The New York Jets recorded the first shutout in team history, a 17-0 blanking of the Kansas City Chiefs.
It was an ugly game between two of the AFL’s bottom feeders -- the Chiefs came in at 2-6-2 and the Jets were struggling at 4-5-1 after a 3-1 start to the season. The Chiefs moved the ball better than the Jets on this day, but three turnovers and two missed FGs helped the Jets keep KC off the scoreboard. The Jets only managed 179 yards of offense in the game, but they got big plays out of special teams, a Bill Baird return of a missed field goal and the defense, a Dainard Paulson interception to give them short fields that they were able to convert into TDs. Paulson starred for the Jets with two Interceptions in the contest.
QB Dick Wood finished with just 112 yards on 13 of 29 passing, but he was able to connect with Don Maynard for 20 yards after the Baird return in the 2nd quarter. Bill Mathis added a rushing TD after Paulson’s 3rd quarter pick, and the Jets cruised to a 17-0 win.
