The New York Jets fined Head Coach Rex Ryan $50,000 for making an obscene gesture. Sewveral days earlier he had given the finger to a collection of Dolphin fans at a mixed martial arts event in South Florida.
Rex riled up the South Florida crowd in an interview. "I want to just tell everybody in Miami, 'Hey, we're coming to beat you twice next year,'" Ryan said during the ringside interview.
The crowd’s reaction was predictable, a round of boos and expletives hurled in Rex’s direction. Rex responded with a raised middle finger to the Miami crowd.
Ryan apologized the next day, calling his actions "stupid and inappropriate." "I wouldn't accept that type of behavior from one of the coaches or players and it's unacceptable from me," he said in a statement.
