February 10, 1976 & 1983
2/10/76: Jets hire Lou Holtz as head coach. Holtz, hired off the campus of N Carolina State where he wshead coach, would not last a year, finishing with a 3-10 record before resigning prior to the end of the season, expressing a desire to return to college.
2/10/83: Jets promote OC Joe Walton to be new head coach on the day after Walt Michaels resignation/firing. Walton would coach the Jets to a 53-57-1 record over 7 seasons with just two playoff appearances.

this date shall be stricken from the jets history. just kidding on the stricken part but clearly both holtz and walton weren't the best hires for the jets. holtz quit before the end of his first season and walton never did get those very good 80's jets teams to perform as they should have. maybe they should have selected marino. maybe that would've been the difference but still, two play off appearances? a little lame.
