February 15, 1996The Jets signed free agent offensive tackle, David Williams. The official free agency period would not start for another day, but the Jets got off to an early start on their rebuild. Williams had been released by the Houston Oilers prior to the start of FA and was eligible to be signed. It was the first of several high profile free agent signings made by the Jets under head coach Rich Kotite as an attempt to rebuild coming off of a disastrous 3-13 season. As the free agency period began, the Jets would add QBs Neil O'Donnell & Frank Reich, OT Jumbo Elliott and WR Jeff Graham. The rebuild didn't work. Elliott was the only signing that worked out well as the Jets finished with a 1-15 record in 1996. Good times!!!

jumbo had the monday night miracle catch. not sure what was up with odonnell. he wasn't bad for the steelers and didn't seem to get a fair shot when parcells took over. frank reich? jeff graham? they were both mailing it in by the time the jets got them.

In 1996 all you had to do was show up at the stadium and pick up a ticket off the ground.
