Alright so what are we going to do here? Will this be addressed in the draft? Kerley has been cut. Rod Streater didn't sign here & we bring Chris Givens in a for a visit. If we don't sign Givens, which I'm hoping is the case, what do we do?
Devin Smith most likely won't be ready camp & majority of the season. Count him as a loss. Enunwa seems to only be good for blocking & here and there catches. Nothing major.
So we have Marshall the beast & Decker the other beast. Decker has basically been our deep threat the past 2 years. With that said, let's look at some prospects. I'm not really hip to all of them, so feel free to drop some knowledge on this class for me.

I wouldn't throw a fit if we picked Wr at 20 but I would be very surprised. The Devin Smith situation is a big problem. We need a speed guy, not just to run 9 routes but to get short passes and turn them into big gains. There are some good smaller speed slot guys in this draft but I think the jets might be hesitant to take one because we took smith last year.

The jets have been working out a handful of bargain bin guys like Streeter and Givens, plus resigning Thompkins. They've also been in attendance in some of the later round prospect's prodays like Lewis @ bowling green... So they're obviously making an effort to address the problem.

Can't see us taking a WR until the 4th or 5th round if at all.
Major question marks in other areas and this receiver class as a whole is VERY "meh".
Though I certainly wouldn't be opposed to Boyd if he's still hanging around in the 3rd.

What about BMarsh's legal woes? If the NFL delivers discipline this year, we'll be pretty shot at WR without him & only Decker again.

Totally possible some team like falls in love with him earlier, but he ought not to be more than the 7-8th WR off the board. He's an intriguing pick for the jets, as we presently have no one with his skill set. It'd be an easy pick to fall in love with... But there's a list of about 10-15 2nd round players I'd rather have if possible.

what about amaro? he has good hands for a big guy. his problem is he can't block like a te but in gailey's system the te doesn't get thrown to much. plus the jets re-signed sudfeld. so right now they have marshall, decker, smith, amaro, thomkins, enunwa plus the running backs to throw to. not too shabby and better still if smith has retained his speed and learns how to catch the ball.
look at this way. whoever the qb is will throw the ball about 400 times. his completion rate will be near 60% so that means 240 receptions. marshall and decker will probably catch 150 between them leaving 90 receptions between the rest of the guys. that means about 20 receptions for each of the other receivers. plenty doable with what they got.

If Macc sticks to his BPA philosophy like he did with Leonard Williams last year then WR could be the pick if all the Tier 1 OTs and LBs are gone. Marshall and Decker are excellent but Brandon will start declining very soon and Decker is an awesome #2 WR, but not suited to be the #1.
