March 16, 2012The Jets signed unrestricted free agent QB, Drew Stanton, to a 1-year contract. Stanton was signed to back-up Mark Sanchez, who days earlier had received a 3-year $58 million contract extension. 5 days later, the Jets signed Tim Tebow, which marked the beginning of the end of the Stanton era. Drew, who had been told the Jets were set at the QB position upon his signing, requested a trade affter he dropped on the depth chart with the Tebow acquisition. The Jets obliged, and on March 24, 8 days after signing him, the Jets traded him with a 7th round pick to Indianapolis for the Colts 6th. A pick the Jets used to select Wake Forest Safety Josh Bush. Stanton had originally been looking forward to his opportunity with the Jets. "Had Mark struggled, they said I'd have a chance to play," Stanton said. "So there was no better opportunity than that, and I was excited about it." Talking about the Tebow acquisition and his brief tenure as a Jet with Newsday later in the 2012 season, Stanton would go on to say, " . . . I was blindsided by it, but it's a matter of moving on and realizing the harshness of the business in this league and how quickly things can evolve. "They didn't have a press conference for me when I signed, but they upheld what they said, they found a good situation for me, and it's fortunate for me."

the jets shoot themselves in the foot again. i'm not sure who compelled them to bring tebow in but it was clearly a bad move no matter which way you cut it.

Still can't believe we let this beast get away. Could you imagine if we still had this guy where our franchise would be at this point? This franchise knows how to squander franchises quarterbacks... Ratliff, Bollinger, clemens, simms, McElroy, ainge, the list goes on and on

"....Mark Sanchez, who days earlier had received a 3-year $58 million contract extension."
Some of the saddest words ever read by Jets fans.
