Much has been made about the number of quarterbacks the Cleveland Browns have used in recent years, but when it comes to the NFL Draft, no team has taken more shots than the New York Jets over the last 16 years. From 1999 through 2015, the Jets drafted ten quarterbacks, two more than the Browns during the same period. At the other end, the Dallas Cowboys have drafted just three quarterbacks since 1999. On the other hand, the Browns have drafted four quarterbacks in the first round of the last 16 drafts, more than any other team and something they are expected to do again this year. Meanwhile, five teams have not selected a quarterback in the first round during this time period, including the Cowboys, Chiefs, Saints, Seahawks, and Patriots.

Draft all the quarterbacks imo. Throw enough shit against a wall some eventually sticks. More qbs you take better chance you hit. Mac has already stated he plans in taking a quarterback in every draft, and I agree with this notion.

i saw this chart too. kind of funny considering the bad luck the jets have had in finding a qb. but also consider if a guy like clemons panned out. he'd be the qb right now instead of riding the bench who knows where. imo using a late pick on a qb isn't necessarily the same as a first or second rounder. a lot of times those late round qbs can be converted to receiver or even safety.

Here are the 10, proving that it is not how many, but whom:
Bryce Petty Tajh Boyd Geno Smith Greg McElroy Mark Sanchez Erik Ainge Kellen Clemens Brad Smith Brroks Bollinger Chad Pennington
A lot of late round projects on that list (plus Brad Smith who was not even drafted to play QB).

Yikes. Jets couldn't even develop a nice backup. Doesn't help that we have had nothing but defensive coaches for the past 10 years.

Throwing shit against the wall works for car sales, not QB's if you don't have in place the tools to make an intelligent choice. We have missed the boat over and over again, and while Mac is correct in taking a QB, I agree with you there, our scouting and processes for how we select must get better, I don't think we need to waist pics throwing shit against the wall.

Yeah, I'm not so cool with the idea of throwing away all our draft picks throwing shitty QBs against the wall. Let someone else throw shit. Draft some good players instead of a ton of shitty QBs how bout that.

Sanchez and Pennington are the only ones of note on that list. That's fucking sad. Not even taking as a starter either.

Shame of it is I think Pennington was our guy. Less the injury that ultimately ended his career I believe he would have been up there with the better QB's of the day. He did not have a strong arm, but I would have taken 5-10yds pinpoint thread the needle bullets all day long.

On a positive note, only two were first rounders, and one was Chad P. So we're not striking out on a bunch of first rounders, like the Browns. And yeah, if Chad stayed healthy, that numbers maybe not as high. Boyd, that was a Clemson throwaway pick thanks to Rex... should be 9, and tied with New England, Denver, SFO, Washington and Baltimore. A lot of teams draft a QB every yr or two - problem is, those are backups rotating through in the case of NWE, DEN and BALT... ours... not so much.

Pennington was very good but his shoulder injuries doomed him. And teams continue to take chances on Mark Sanchez, so while I'd say the Jets haven't succeeded with 1st round QB picks they haven't made a Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf type blunder. I think the Jets biggest problem with QB stems from two issues....Development of the QB and protection of the QB.
The reason Sanchez did reasonably well here (and better than other places so far) is that he benefited from an excellent Defense, solid running game and a very, very good OLine. With a guy like Ken O'Brien, he was probably better than both Sanchez and Pennington, but the Jets couldn't really protect him well enough IMO.
