Free Agent guard Matt Slauson signed a 1-year contract with the Chicago Bears. Slauson, who had been a 6th round pick for the Jets in 2009, had established himself as a starter on the OL by the 2012 season. He became a free agent and signed a 1-year deal with the Bears with approx $850K. With Slauson leaving, the Jets lost both of their starting guards from the 2012 season with Brandon Moore retiring. Moore was replaced by FA Willie Colon who had been signed earlier in March. The Jets planned to start Vlad Ducasse in Slauson's place in the 2013 season. By mid season, Ducasse was replaced by rookie Brian Winters.
As for Slauson, he has been a starter and solid player for the Bears since 2013. He signed a 4-year extension with the Bears in 2014, and in 2015 he was joined by Vlad Ducasse, who started 11 games for the Bears alongside Slauson.
