I've made the mistake of falling in love with prospects wayyyy to early. During this time of year, I've made the same mistake over and over again of putting a quarterback as the No. 1 pick in the draft. I did it with Jake Locker, again with Geno Smith, and again with Teddy Bridgewater. When a close friend of mine found out that I was torn about winning or losing the Titan game, he sent me these articles on Mariota and Winston.

I found these articles interesting. They basically say that neither Winston or Mariota are worth tanking for and that neither quarterback is a slam dunk like Peyton or Luck.
Some of you already know I've carved in stone Dorial Green-Beckham's name for the No.1 pick for the 2016 draft. I just hope it's not too late for the rest of you guys!

I agree with both write ups -- neither guy is a sure thing. But still, if one of these guys is on the board when we pick -- at this point, I would have no problem rolling the dice. I am absolutely not in favor of packaging picks to move up for either of them. If they are both gone by the team we pick, then I would have no problem with WR or OT. If we can't get our QB this year, then lets put as many offensive pieces in place this season, find a vet to start ahead of Geno and worry about a long term solution at QB next season.
If we have a better Oline, and we add a true #1 receiver in the draft, with a new GM or coach, we could be a much better free agent destination in 2016.
As far as DGB, the talent is undeniable. Still not sure if he comes out this year or next. And if he comes out this year, do you take a chance if he is there in the 2nd given the baggage and the fact that he has not played in a year? He could be another Dez Bryant, a guy who drops for character reasons that turns out to be a stud int eh NFL, or will he be like Josh Gordon -- enormous talent but in too much trouble to get on the field consistently.

I don't think anyone is arguing that either of the top 2 QBs are Andrew Luck, but that doesn't mean they don't warrant a top 5 selection.

I know, I know, but it's just there have been so many duds at the QB position in the upper picks rather then studs. Ryan Leaf, Rick Mirer, JaMarcus Russell, Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, David Carr, Heath Shuler, Vince Young, and the list goes on. Thus, I just can't get excited over a QB in December.

When you have a shot at a QB who "could" be a long term answer at QB, you have to take it. However, while I agree that Winston and Mariota are not sure things, they are the best of a small number of options. Regardless, it does not matter much anymore, they are going to be gone before the Jets pick. The Jets should be looking for a mid to late round QB with potential and a current NFL back-up as well. I like Rakeem Cato as the prospect and Chase Daniel as the NFL back-up. If they Jets go into Camp with Daniel, Smith, and Cato they will have increased the "possibility" of finding a QB significantly without using a mush resources to do so.
